Reform MP Lee Anderson has secretly cut up from his spouse of 14 years and put the household house up on the market

Reform MP Lee Anderson has secretly split from his wife of nearly 14 years and has put their family home on the market.

Mr Anderson, 58, has been single for almost a year after the his marriage to Conservative councillor Sinead broke down.

The MP for Ashfield, who has two sons from a previous marriage, said that he remains ‘very good friends’ with his 47-year-old ex.

He told The Sun: ‘It’s been a very difficult period working away for long periods of time which has impacted our relationship, so we made the mutual decision to separate early last year.

‘We are trying to sell our house as we have both moved on. We remain very good friends, and we will always support each other in the future’

He has previously described Sinead, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 18, as ‘a fighter with a brilliant spirit’ after she had a double lung transplant aged 39, having previously being told she wouldn’t live past 30.

In a post on her 43rd birthday, Mr Anderson said: ‘She is my driving force and the reason I am your MP’.

The couple met while working at the Citizens Advice Bureau when she came in for some advice.

Mr Anderson told MailOnline: ‘I told her that she needed to come back for a follow-up appointment and the rest is history!’.

Her double  double lung transplant is said to be Mr Anderson’s inspiration behind joining the Conservative party in 2018.

In 2023, before his Reform defection, he said: ‘When people are banging on about the and nasty Tories and all this, I say, well, that’s my wife. She had a double lung transplant under a Tory government, and thanks to the NHS she’s doing all right.’

Last April, the Conservative have suspended Sinead after a photo appeared reportedly showing the councillor campaigning for Reform UK.

The photo appears to show Sinead among a group of people canvassing for Reform UK in Selston alongside her husband.

She was reinstated as a Conservative councillor in May after being cleared following an investigation into the connections.

The blunt-talking former coal miner started his political career as a Labour councillor, before defecting to the Conservatives and being elected as MP for Ashfield in Nottinghamshire in 2019.

In the past six years he has spent a lot of time in the spotlight after wading in to debates on poverty and immigration, and the support for Black Lives Matter shown by England football stars.

Earlier this month, Lee Anderson alongside Reform UK chairman Zia Yusuf said Rupert Lowe, the party’s chief whip was being investigated for bullying over ‘derogatory and discriminatory remarks’ allegedly made to two female employees.

They also said the Great Yarmouth MP – who will now sit in the House of Commons as an independent MP after having the Reform whip withdrawn – had been reported to police over astonishing allegations he physically threatened Yusuf.

But Mr Lowe, who denies any wrongdoing, claims he is being targeted because he dared to speak out against Nigel Farage’s leadership, accusing him of acting like a ‘messiah’.

Mr Anderson sought to explain the decision, stating on X that Reform UK ‘cannot function effectively’ if Mr Lowe had remained, adding ‘no man is bigger than our party.’

He also insinuated that the beleaguered MP had shown ‘unwillingness to cooperate’ in the investigation. Mr Lowe swiftly responded to say his statement was ‘an outright lie’.

Mr Anderson has also recently been caught in a scuffle with an anti Brexit campaigner outside Parliament.

The Ashfield MP was filmed trading insults with ‘Stop Brexit’ campaigner Steve Bray in Westminster in a heated exchange which eventually saw police intervene.

Footage of the incident shows Bray taunting the former Conservative politician as he walked down the street, branding him an ‘MP who lies through his teeth’.

Mr Bray continues: ‘Who votes for idiots like you? How many parties have you been in Lee? You just jump ship whenever it suits you.’

The pair continue to trade insults, before Mr Anderson reaches for Mr Bray’s hat and knocks it upwards.

Mr Bray then responds by pushing the politician in the chest, and claiming to two police officers nearby ‘that’s assault’.

But Mr Anderson replies in turn, saying Mr Bray is ‘a thug’ and ‘needs arresting.’

The two officers then intervene to break up the pair as Mr Anderson walks off.
