Darts star bursts into tears with emotional win after heartbreaking household demise
Darts star Ricky Evans was an emotional winner at the European Darts Trophy as he dedicated his win over Raymond van Barneveld to his sister – who recently passed away
Darts star Ricky Evans couldn’t hide his feelings after an emotional win over Dutch sensation Raymond van Barneveld.
Rapid took out a 12-darter to secure a 6-4 victory over the former World Champion at the European Darts Trophy in Gottingen. Evans took out D16 as tears immediately started to stream down his face.
The Kettering thrower recently suffered a family tragedy – and in an emotional post on Facebook he paid tribute to his sister after her sudden death.
A series of pictures were shared by Evans alongside the touching caption: “My beautiful little sister Elisha… I love you so much. I’ll always be your best friend.”
Meanwhile, his management company released their own statement: “We send our deepest condolences to Ricky Evans and his family and friends, after the devastating news of the sudden passing of his sister Elisha.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you Ricky.”
Ahead of the game on Friday evening, Evans shared on social media: “All set & ready for tonight’s match. This one’s for you sis,” adding a red heart emoji.
“Brilliant win for Ricky Evans tonight. Deserves so much credit for the way he’s carried on the past few weeks and to a very decent level too,” one fan posted.
While a second said: “Delighted for Ricky Evans after a really tough few weeks for him and his family. That point to the sky was an emotional one.” As third shared: “That win must mean the world to him!”
And another added: “Incredible win for Ricky Evans after what he’s been through recently with his sisters passing, what a human being!”
Rapid will now meet Dave Chisnall in the next round – a repeat of their all-time classic at the World Championship at the turn of the year.
It was Evans that bested him on that occasion, but Chizzy hit back at the UK Open – dumping Rapid out.
