Arne Slot despatched message over Liverpool ‘disappointment’ and Manchester United’s worst concern

Liverpool winning the Premier League can never be classed as a disappointing season.

Nor could it be for any team for that matter. This week we’ve seen talk that the Reds may feel a little flat after being knocked out of the Champions League and suffering Carabao Cup final heartbreak against Newcastle. No doubt.

They suffered two tough defeats against PSG and the Magpies. They should be down.

But do you think when over half a million people are lining the streets of Liverpool to get a glimpse of the Premier League trophy that anyone on the red half of Merseyside will care?

Let’s put it into a little perspective. Liverpool have won one league title in 35 years. They didn’t get to fully celebrate that one either as it was during the Covid pandemic.

They went 30 years without winning the biggest prize in English football and had to endure the bitter rivals Manchester United whittling away at their record for the most league titles for over two decades.

Now they’re about to get No 20 unless the biggest collapse ever happens and equal United’s record. The only way this could be a disappointing season for Liverpool is if somehow Arsenal overtook them with nine games to go and 12 points difference.

Then it would be a disaster. But that’s not going to happen. Liverpool will most likely win the title by double figures as the Gunners have the Champions League to focus on.

Liverpool is a club in love with the European Cup. They’ve won it six times. They are the most successful club in English football. But they have had years of goading from down the M62 about how Sir Alex Ferguson’s United knocked them off their perch.

Now they’re about to get back on that perch alongside United as the two clubs with the most English titles. Just imagine thinking that in January 2024 when Jurgen Klopp announced that he was leaving at the end of the season.

Liverpool fans feared the worst. They thought they could be returning to the years of finishing fifth, sixth and sometimes worse before the German had come in to turn them back into winners.

Now 14 months on, they stand on the verge of winning the title under Arne Slot. Something Klopp could only do once in his nine years because it is so difficult.

This will be an historic season for Liverpool. Far from a disappointing one.
