Ruben Amorim refuses to provide Marcus Rashford lifeline as Man Utd set switch price

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is spending the rest of the season on loan at Aston Villa and Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has made a decision on the England man’s future

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 28: Ruben Amorim, Head Coach of Manchester United, speaks to Marcus Rashford of Manchester United as he prepares to enter the pitch as a substitute during the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 match between Manchester United and FK Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford on November 28, 2024 in Manchester, England. Ruben Amorim will not offer Marcus Rashford a Manchester United lifeline this summer.

And United bosses will look to strike a permanent deal with Aston Villa for Rashford in the region of £60m.

Rashford joined Villa on-loan in January after finding himself ostracised by Amorim. The United manager was less than impressed with Rashford’s attitude and axed him from the squad, while the striker made it clear he wanted a new challenge elsewhere.

Since joining Villa, Rashford has rediscovered some of his best form and love for the game again. But however well he does in the Midlands, it appears there is no way back for Rashford at United.

Amorim will look to sign a proven goalscorer this summer, and United hope Rashford continues to impress with Villa because it will increase his transfer value. Amorim previously said he allowed Rashford to leave United because the pair didn’t see eye-to-eye.

“I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” Amorim said.

“Sometimes you have one player that is really good with one coach, and the same player with another coach is different.

“I wish the best to Rashford and to [Villa manager] Unai Emery, and they can connect because he’s a very good player.”

Though the boss admitted Rashford had not said he disagreed with Amorim’s ideas.

“You know, like me, that it’s not the way that occurs,” Amorim added. “It’s something that you feel as a coach and as a player. It’s quite normal. It happened with a lot of coaches.

“The important thing is that I’m here saying that was my decision, like Ty [Malacia] and Antony was my decision to do these loans, and to keep some players even without any transfers.”
