‘Too good for Chelsea’ Cole Palmer recognized as Liverpool’s excellent Mo Salah alternative
Cole Palmer hasn’t been fit enough to be involved in England’s opening World Cup qualifiers.
Which means he hasn’t had to stomach reuniting with international team-mates in a better place than him. Like Anthony Gordon and Dan Burn, who have just won a trophy with Newcastle.
Or Declan Rice, Lewis Myles-Skelly, Morgan Rodgers and Harry Kane, who have a Champions League quarter final to look forward to. Or Curtis Jones or Jarell Quansah, who have a Premier League title within their grasp.
Palmer has nothing more appealing ahead of him than a trip to Poland in the Europa Conference League, and a battle to help Chelsea finish in a Champions League place.
Which, for a man of his talents, is as unfulfilling as it is unacceptable. Palmer turned his back on Manchester City for Chelsea to secure regular first team football. Which he’s done.

But if he chose a team he believed could help him fulfil his ambitions, he was wrong. Palmer is too good for Chelsea and needs to find a club more befitting his status as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.
And if Mohamed Salah decides to leave Liverpool this summer, there would be no better replacement than Palmer.
