B&M fan asks buyers how they’d feed themselves on £5 a day in the event that they needed to
A B&M lover wanted to know what people would buy from the discount retailer if they only had £5 per day to spend on food – and may rushed to offer their suggestions
Thinking of meals can be a challenge, especially when you’re bored of the same foods. One office worker took his plight to the social media forum, Reddit to ask for some inspiration after bingeing on a questionable concoction of noodles and baked beans mixed together.
The worker asked: “If you had to feed yourself on £5 a day from B&M, how would do you it? I’m at the office until 9pm and forgot to bring in either lunch or dinner. I have access to a bowl of fruit, an office microwave and a £5 note.
“I’ve had noodles and baked beans mixed together before and while terrifically (sic) under budget I’m a bit bored of this, open to recommendations!
“Edit 1) went to Tesco’s and picked up four baked potatoes. Lunch was two of them with a tin of Swedish style meatballs and red Leicester from B&M. Dinner will be same again but beans and red leicester.”
Many people rushed to offer their suggestions – with some more sensible than others.
One wrote: “I wouldn’t be sensible at all and buy all the sweets.”
Another added: “I’ve done 10 multipack bags of crisps for lunch before and I can’t promise I won’t do it again.”
While one wrote: “Get one of those 10% 1 litre cans of Faxe and a Toffee Crisp.”
“£5 at B&M?! I could make a feast out of that,” bragged another, while one commented: “Pot noodles pot noodles and not poodles.”
But one argued: “I disgaree. I’m not sure B&M has any actual food. It’s just sugar in different shapes and textures and other matter.”
Another suggested Fray Bentos steak pudding with instant mash and a tin of peas, which gained many people’s approval.
One said: “So the place I used to work was next to a B&M. 1 pint of milk and a mini cereal box for breakfast. I would get the Dolmio microwave pasta packet and a tin of drained tuna for lunch. Relatively healthy, low fat and cheap. Then maybe a chocolate bar.”
While one said: “Packet of microwave rice, jar of sweet and sour sauce and a packet of cooked chicken pieces from the fridge section.
“Or smash, the little cooked meatballs and gravy. Or a packet of seasoned cous cous, bag of salad, packet of chicken and whatever dressing. Or rice salad, use microwave rice, then mix in a can of peas and sweetcorn, salad leaves and whatever protein you like.”
