Elon Musk’s ex Grimes reveals shock well being prognosis amid battle with ‘bizarre obsessions and motivations’

Grimes has revealed she was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, and believes she is likely also dyslexic.

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter shared the news with her fans on Saturday as she hit out at an account called ‘ADHD Memes’ which had posted a screengrab of an X post.

It read: ‘I saw a TikTok about how excessive reading in childhood is a sign of dissociation and I can’t stop thinking about it.’

Grimes, who shares three children with Elon Musk, responded to the post while offering insight into her own diagnosis.

‘I have to say, there’s this subculture of I guess “mental health” accounts that I actually think are like extreme infohazards,’ she said.

‘Got diagnosed w ADHD/ autism this year and realized I’m prob dyslexic which is why I can’t spell without spellcheck.’

She said that if she had known that she has ADHD and autism as a child, ‘I would have worked so much less hard’ and would have been put on medication for the conditions.

The Genesis singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, also argued that her ‘weird obsessions and motivations’ would likely have been viewed as ‘pathological’ at the time.

‘I could have written off certain things that were very hard for me, but I’m glad I over came [sic] them,’ she wrote.

She then said she believes a ‘huge percentage’ of ADHD diagnoses are related to ‘screen addiction and dopaminergic burn out.’

The National Institutes of Health has published a study showing that ‘excessive use of electronic media has been found to be associated with physical and psychological adverse consequences, including poor sleep, decreased social coping and increased ADHD symptoms.

‘In children with ADHD, screen time reduction might reinforce good coping skills, physical health and decreased ADHD-related behaviors,’ it said.

The Attention Deficit Disorder Association also reports that ADHD and low dopamine levels are linked.

In Grimes’ case, she said her ADHD symptoms ‘were infinitely worse’ when she ‘wasn’t an avid reader.’

‘An ADHD account trying to pathologize one of the best things a child can do to help with ADHD (and also become an autodidact and knowledgeable person etc., etc) is so dark… I can’t even begin,’ she wrote.

The Canadian-born singer then called out the ‘uniformed social media mental health subculture,’ describing certain accounts as ‘anti civilizational and geared towards making people worse.’

She added in the comments, ‘I just think unsupervised medical advice and proliferation of info about symptoms is a very tricky thing.’

Grimes’ shocking admission comes amid her ongoing battle with so-called First Buddy over the care of their children.

The mother of three of Musk’s 13 known children has feuded with the world’s richest man for months.

Most recently, Grimes said she has ‘begged’ the DOGE chief and ‘tried legal recourse’ to keep their children away from the White House and out of the spotlight as her four-year-old son X AE A-XII was repeatedly pictured in the Oval Office and at CPAC.

‘I have tried begging the public and my kids dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse,’ Grimes wrote on the social media platform owned by her ex earlier this month.

Her remarks came in response to a thread criticizing her response to protecting children from online discourse, with X users saying she should be protecting her children from online trolls.

‘I unfortunately do not control the internet and cannot wipe this from the internet,’ the singer said.

‘I’ve seen young ppl destroyed by the internet too. The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day.

‘It’s insane to me that there’s no way to deal with this. I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives but I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it tbh.’

In an interview last month, Grimes also shared her desire for her son’s high-profile appearances to end as soon as possible.

‘I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere,’ she told Time. ‘I think fame is something you should consent to.’

Just a few days before the interview was published, Grimes also sent a panicked X message to Musk about one of their child’s ‘medical crisis.’

‘Plz respond about our child’s medical crisis,’ she wrote to her ex. ‘I am sorry to do this publicly but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation. This requires immediate attention.’

Boucher added that Musk didn’t even have to respond to her but could contact her through a third party.

‘If you don’t want to talk to me can you please designate or hire someone who can so that we can move forward on solving this. This is urgent, Elon.’

Social media followers expressed their sympathies with Grimes in response and wondered why she was taking it public, saying the effects could cause permanent damage.

‘I’m not giving any details but he won’t respond to texts call or emails and has skipped every meeting and our child will suffer life long impairment if he doesn’t respond asap, so I need him to f***ing respond and if I have to apply public pressure then I guess that’s where we are at.’

Musk has not yet publicly responded – despite his frequent posts on the social media platform.

After Techno was born, Grimes sued Musk in September 2023 over parental rights to their children in a California court. Musk allegedly fought to keep the hearing closed, asking for the documents to be sealed.

She claimed that Musk was withholding access to her kids and even prevented them from seeing their terminally ill maternal grandmother.

Musk then sued for for custody of the children he shares with Grimes in Texas, where his businesses are headquartered.

A Travis County Clerk has since confirmed that the Texas dispute had been settled, but declined to give further details.

Grimes, though, claimed the ordeal almost left her ‘bankrupt’ and unable to make new music.
