Men reveal the worst outfits ladies can put on on dates… and the sexiest
Women have taken to social media to ask what they should wear on a first date – and even how they should style their hair – with some men offering up unsolicited advice.
One woman posted on Reddit, asking the type of outfits men prefer and if she should wear her hair up or down. She then returned to the site to call the enlightening guidance ‘extremely effective.’
Tips ranged from wearing outfits that are ‘clean and well-fitting,’ making sure to be hygienic, and not dressing like a ‘slouch,’ while keeping the ‘war paint to a minimum.’
To find out what works and what doesn’t, FEMAIL reached out to men across the world about their highly specific first date fashion preferences.
Dating coach Ice White, 35, told FEMAIL, ‘I may be a little extreme here, but the best possible outfit a woman can wear for a date involves eight-inch high heels,’ specifying they must avoid ‘showing toes.’
‘A short pleated skirt is also awesome, but other skirts that work well are soft pencil skirts no matter how long,’ Ice, who prefers color coordination, added.
The Message Game: A Guide to Dating at the Touch of a Button author prefers when a woman keeps her hair down, and has a ‘strong distaste for buns,’ which he called a ‘red flag.’
Another turn off for Ice, who’s based in Las Vegas, are ‘heels that are so pathetically short that they don’t even deserve to be called high heels.’

‘I judge people in general by their shoes, and I am turned off by strappy shoes or open shoes,’ the MGAI AI Wingman chatbot creator continued.
He also prefers women in their twenties to forties avoid donning ‘dresses that are for 50- to 70-year-olds, because dressing ‘too modest is not cool.’
Other men, like Danilo Coviello, appreciate when a first date looks more natural.
Danilo, who founded Espresso Translations, said his favorite first date ensemble was when a woman wore a little black dress along with subtle accessories, calling it a ‘winning combination.’
‘A casual outfit like a fitted blouse and jeans can have the same impact, as long as it is something she’s at ease in,’ Danilo, based in Italy, said.
When it comes to cosmetics, Danilo looks for ‘effortless makeup which includes only mascara and lip gloss,’ although many women actually spend hours to get an ‘effortless’ no-makeup makeup look.
Daniel Vasilevski thinks ‘the sexiest outfit a woman can wear on a first date is hands down a sundress.’ He’s not alone – many men on social media agree, although there’s plenty of conversation about what defines the silhouette and it even sparked a massive debate last year.
‘There’s something about it that just does it for me,’ Daniel, who’s the Director & Owner of Bright Force Electrical, continued.

‘It’s relaxed, but not careless. It moves with her, does not hide too much, and does not give away everything either.

‘There is a softness to it that is very inviting, especially on a warm evening. You can tell she did not overthink it but she still wanted to look good.’
Daniel’s also a big fan of women who rock their natural curly hair, which has been equally divisive.
‘It has character because it’s not overly styled or controlled, and that’s what I like about it.’
Hone John Tito, co-founder of Game Host Bros, prefers outfits that ‘match her vibe,’ which are ‘way more attractive than a cookie-cutter dress.’
‘I have seen guys tune out halfway through dates when the outfit felt like it was picked off some Pinterest board,’ the New Zealand-based businessman explained.
‘The women who actually get second dates from me? Nine out of ten times, they wore something functional, a little unexpected, and clearly personal.’
