Traveller boy, 12, ‘caught driving stolen BMW pulling caravan’ now working from cops
Police are on a manhunt for Britain’s most wanted preteen after a 12-year-old allegedly stole a 4×4 BMW with a caravan attached to it and took it on a 40 mile-long joyride
Police are on a ‘manhunt’ for Britain’s most wanted 12-year-old – the preteen on the run is accused of stealing a BMW with a holiday caravan attached to it and taking the stolen vehicle on a massive 40-mile joyride.
The boy was scheduled to appear in front of Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 14. After the boy failed to turn up at court an arrest warrant was issued for the fugitive and police are currently scouring the country for his location.
A spokesman for the court said: “A juvenile was due to appear before Harrogate magistrates charged with theft of a motor vehicle of value unknown, driving it dangerously and handling stolen goods, namely a caravan.”
The spokesperson announced: “The defendant has not attended and an arrest warrant has been issued.” The young fugitive is a member of the travelling community and has no permanent address.”
The miniature mastermind behind the alleged heist was only 11 years old when apprehended by police after reportedly being spotted behind the wheel of a BMW X5 which he could barely see over.
Police caught up to the beamer and caravan after they disappeared from a holiday park in Thirsk. They are said to have caught a child once he had reached the London-bound M1 at Garforth, outside Leeds. The child fugitive allegedly seized the 4×4 and a caravan attached to the car and drove it 40 miles along the A1M to North Yorkshire.
The caravan the preteen is accused of stealing belonged to Janine Forth. The Leeds local has since taken to Facebook to reveal how the incident took place. Janine revealed: “We arrived at the caravan site just as they had hitched it up and were driving away with it.
“If it [hadn’t] been for quick thinking and the amazing response from the police, god knows what would have happened.”
The woman added the caravan was installed with “all the up to date security” and added the first thing the boy thief did during the heist was “wreck the front end to get the tracker out”.
Janine issued a very strong warning to pet lovers over social media and said: “All I can say is that for those who leave their pets in their caravan whilst they go out, please DON’T! Thank god ours was with us safe.”
Sergeant Paul Cording, the officer who pulled over the then 11-year-old boy has noted just how bizarre the entire ordeal was.
The Sergeant said: “Even after over 23 years service, you come across things that you struggle to comprehend.
“Like yesterday when some great fast track work from the team identified a recently stolen caravan being towed by a vehicle on false plates, but then to find the driver was only 11 years old!”
