Woman ‘strangled to dying by mass assassin husband throughout conjugal go to at jail’
Stephanie Dowells, 62, was visiting her husband David Brinson, 54, at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California, when the mass murderer allegedly attacked her
A woman who visited her mass murderer husband for a conjugal visit was allegedly strangled to death by the killer following Bible lessons.
Stephanie Dowells tragically during a conjugal visit with David Brinson at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California, last November. The 62 year old was visiting her 54 year old partner when, in the early hours, the inmate used a phone to inform guards that his wife had collapsed.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation detailed how, despite the officer’s attempts to save her life, Ms Dowells passed away about an hour later. The Amador County Coroner revealed that the hair stylist had been strangled to death.
Brinson is currently serving four consecutive life sentences without the chance of parole. He was sentenced in 1994 after being found guilty of fatally shooting four men.
The murders were described as “execution-style murders, according to a 1994 article, and committed during a robbery at one of the victims’ garage apartments in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood in Los Angeles.Nataly Jiminez, Ms Dowells’ daughter-in-law, said: ” according to a 1994 article, and were committed during a robbery at one of the victims’ garage apartments in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles.
Nataly Jiminez, Ms Dowells’ daughter-in-law, shared: “They would read the Bible together. He was in school in there because she was pushing him to try to be this better person.”
Armand Torres, one of Dowells’ two sons, believes the prison should be held responsible for his mother’s death. He questioned: “How could they just let this happen? I just don’t get it.”
In the US, some prisons offer conjugal visits with “apartment-like facilities” on-site, according to the US Sun. These intimate encounters can span from 30 to 40 hours.
Mr Torres expressed his distress: “My mom was just left alone, and she called for help, I’m sure, and there’s nothing she could do. Given the history that this guy has, we kind of wanted to know how is it even possible for them to be unsupervised?”.
The California Department of Corrections regards conjugal visits as a “privilege” that inmates must apply for, with stringent criteria in place. “Only those who demonstrate sustained good behavior and meet specific program requirements are considered,” they further clarified.
The Irish Star reports that the investigation into Dowells’ death is ongoing, and no charges have been brought against Brinston in relation to her death. He is currently housed at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton, which caters to prisoners with serious health issues.
A fundraising effort has been launched to support Ms Dowell’s family with the costs associated with transporting her body and arranging a funeral. Among the heartfelt tributes, one individual referred to her as Stevi D, hailing her as “a beacon of strength and love and the cornerstone of her family and community.”
Ms Dowells played a vital role in supporting her sons, elderly parents, and eight grandchildren, and her sudden passing has had a profound impact on those who loved her. As one tribute noted: “Stevi’s sudden departure has left a void deeply felt by her family and community alike.”
