Good Morning Britain fans were left open-mouthed by legendary Blue Peter presenter’s appearance on the ITV show on Tuesday.

Viewers gasped ‘I can’t believe it!’ after Katy Hill spoke to the programme’s entertainment editor Richard Arnold, 55, about the children’s live show being axed.

Katy was a huge fan favourite when she presented Blue Peter between 1995 to 2000

During the chat, the former host recalled her time on the show and said: ‘You know what, I wanted to present that show since I was five!

‘It was because this was the 70s, right, you guys know this? There had been no girl power!

‘That was the place I saw girls jumping out of planes, flying fast jets and fast cars! Generally being pretty cool! I was like: “That’s the job for me!”

‘I never equated my fear of public speaking with landing that show and it was incredible!

‘But as Peter said, there’s nothing like the adrenaline when you’re about to go live on your first show! It’s out of body, terrified!’

Those watching at home were amazed at how incredible Katy looks and took to social media with their thoughts.

One tweeted: ‘Katy Hill looks great for 53yrs old #GMB.’

Another confessed: ‘I can’t believe she’s 53.’

A third chimed in: ‘LOVE KATY HILL! She looks great! She should be back presenting on TV! #gmb.’

‘Katy Hill should be doing #ThisMorning #GMB She’s a natural,’ a fourth said.

Blue Peter, which is created by John Hunter Blair, hit our screens in 1958.

Over the years there have been more than 5,000 episodes.

The show has been presented by a number of popular faces including Konnie Huq, Simon Thomas, Zoe Salmo, Gethin Jones, Barney Harwood and Shini Muthukrishnan.

But after a whopping 66 years on TV, youngsters will no longer be able to watch it live and it will be moved online.

Insiders have told The Mail On Sunday that the decision scrap the live shows was kept a secret by bosses.

To make matters worse, presenters Shini Muthukrishnan, Joel Mawhinney and Abby Cook were unaware of the extent of the changes.

A source told us: ‘Of course this has been in the works for months.

‘The big bosses all knew what was happening and those they did tell were all told to keep it quiet.

‘It’s a huge shock and a number of the crew still have no idea what’s going on. Goodness knows what it means for the presenters and those working on the show but the view is that it has all been handled very badly.’

Katy has had a very successful career since Blue Peter – and she even won a BAFTA Award for Best Presenter during her stint on the programme.

She has also appeared on Live & Kicking, Top of the Pops and The Games.

The star has also been a radio presenter for Heart Breakfast on Heart Radio.

Good Morning Britian airs on ITV1 weekdays from 6am and is available to stream on ITVX.
