Jadon Sancho is reportedly in talks to re-join Borussia Dortmund as he eyes a sensational third spell at the Bundesliga giants this summer.

Despite Chelsea holding an obligation to buy Sancho for £25 million at the end of the season, following his loan move from Manchester United last September, the 24-year-old has failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.

He has contributed to just three goals in his last 20 Premier League outings and it’s emerged that Chelsea would have the option to pay United £5m to cancel the deal and send Sancho back to Old Trafford.

German publication BILD have reported that Chelsea are unlikely to trigger their obligation to buy Sancho as his form hits rock bottom again.

Sancho’s miserable season at Chelsea has led to speculation about another comeback at Dortmund, who themselves are enduring a woeful season, languishing in 11th in the Bundesliga, a staggering 27 points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.

Sources claim Sancho has maintained a relationship with “his old love” Dortmund, where he enjoyed two previous spells.

The report suggests that Sancho’s desire to return to Dortmund is growing daily, making it his dream move for the summer transfer window and he is in contact with Dortmund winger, and close friend, Jamie Gittens.

Sancho, who hasn’t represented England since 2021, is believed to have directed his agents to facilitate a move. Bayer Leverkusen are also reportedly interested in Sancho, who appears increasingly likely to be playing his football outside of the Premier League next season.

Ruben Amorim is keen to cash in on Sancho to help fund his overhaul of the United squad this summer, with Marcus Rashford and Antony also potentially facing the axe.

By selling the trio, the Red Devils could generate at least £80m, which would significantly boost Amorim’s lacklustre attack.

While the bosses at Old Trafford would probably prefer Chelsea to honour their agreement and sign Sancho permanently at the end of the season, earning a £5m fee for a loan wouldn’t be a disaster. However, it would prove easier than offloading the flop for good themselves.
