Boxing famous person Floyd Mayweather names the most effective fighter on the planet proper now – and it is NOT Oleksandr Usyk
- Floyd Mayweather was boxing’s pound-for-pound king for a number of years
- He has now named the fighter he considers to be the best in the world right now
- The American superstar overlooked Oleksandr Usyk when making his pick
Floyd Mayweather has delivered his verdict on who the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing is right now.
Mayweather, 48, held that unofficial title for a number of years during a career that saw him finish with a perfect 50-0 professional record.
Eight years on from hanging up his gloves, Mayweather is still keeping a close eye on the current generation, and has now named the boxer he believes stands above the rest.
‘I think Terence Crawford, right now in the sport of boxing, is the pound-for-pound best fighter,’ he told Forbes reporter Brian Mazique.
‘It’s good to see him in the position that he’s in. Terence Crawford, continue to be great.’
The Ring Magazine, which is branded as ‘The Bible of Boxing’ currently has Crawford at No3 in their pound-for-pound rankings behind Oleksandr Usyk and Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue.

Usyk beat Tyson Fury twice in 2024 to take top spot and has been undisputed champion in the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions.
Meanwhile, Inoue is also unbeaten and has held world titles in four different weight classes.
But Mayweather thinks Crawford is better than both of them. Crawford is also a four-weight world champion, and has previously been the undisputed champion in the super-lightweight and welterweight divisions.
He stepped up to 154lbs for the first time in his last outing in August, where he outpointed Israil Madrimov.
He is expected to move up another two weight classes to challenge super-middleweight king Canelo Alvarez in September in one of the biggest fights of 2025.
Mayweather famously outclassed Alvarez back in 2013, and his remarks about Crawford appear to suggest he is backing his fellow American to get the job done against the Mexican great later this year.
