Argentina’s Emi Martinez cheekily taunted arch-enemies Brazil during Argentina’s crushing 4-1 win.

Even without injured Lionel Messi, Argentina eased to victory, thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister in the first half, with Guiliano Simeone killing the game in the 71st minute.

It proved a quiet night for Martinez, with Matheus Cunha’s goal the only shot on target the visitors mustered up, and the Aston Villa keeper took a moment to amuse himself in the closing stages by casually juggling the ball with his knees in his penalty area.

Fans’ reactions were split on social media, as users reacted to the Marmite goalkeeper’s antics. One fan said: “Down 4-1 to your rivalling nation and Emi Martinez is doing keepy ups on you…. My head would be HOT.” A second replied: “You’d have to see me off the pitch.”

A third wrote: “Martinez boils my blood.” As another user said: “Their coach was not happy though.” As the end of the clip showed Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni wagging his finger at Martinez.

The match itself was a full blooded affair following X-rated remarks by Brazil’s Raphinha before the game began. He confidently asserted: “We will beat them, no doubt.

“On and off the pitch, if we have to.” To which former Brazil icon Romario responded with “F*** them?”, and Raphinha confirmed, “F*** them.”.

Martinez also clashed with Raphinha following the Barcelona forward’s comments

His brazen statements appeared to have lit a fire under the Argentinian team, leading to an intense exchange where ex-Manchester City man Nicolas Otamendi encouraged Raphinha to ‘talk less’.

The tension escalated post-match when Raphinha found himself on the receiving end of a provocative shoulder charge from Martinez, followed by Leandro Paredes and Cristian Romero patronisingly tapping his face.

The Barcelona forward was visibly incensed and required team-mate Endrick to intervene and pull him away.

Stirring the tensions further, Argentina’s players celebrated in front of their supporters while mockingly singing, “A minute of silence for Raphinha, who is dead.”
