A shock European heavyweight is reportedly considering a surprise move for Kobbie Mainoo, but are thought to be concerned by the potential fee.

Mainoo has emerged as one of the most promising midfield wonderkids on the continent, thriving last season at Old Trafford and earning his way into England‘s European Championship squad.

This season however his progression has somewhat stymied, with intermittent fitness struggles as well as the challenge of adapting to a new system under Ruben Amorim

While he previously had been one of the untouchable names on the books at the Red Devils, he is reportedly considered not quite as crucial to the club’s future as before, according to a report from Football Italia.

Though he is still under contract until 2027, with an option for another year on top of that, Inter Milan are now thought to be monitoring the situation.

According to several sources, via Football Italia, the Italian giants are keen on the player, though the reported £70million fee it may require to pry him away is thought to be a point of concern.

Despite being one of the biggest teams in European football, Inter’s recruitment policy genuinely sees them avoid such hefty purchases.

In recent years they have focused more on free agents, normally players more advanced in age, but it has brought them undeniable success despite its limitations.

Two such buys in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu are however advancing in age, with a midfield rejuvenation nearing it’s date of necessity.

As such, Mainoo would prove a prudent purchase, should the club be prepared to spend such a sum.

The United star, described as ‘the new Paul Pogba’ by Italian media outlets, would also naturally command a hefty wage.

Mainoo was absent from the most recent England squad through injury, though he will doubtless be considered among the most likely contenders to win a place on the plan to North America for next summer’s World Cup.

He is however set to return from injury in the near future, in what would be a huge boost to Amorim in what has been a campaign of disruption in his squad.

A move to Inter would see Mainoo competing at a higher level continentally than he might find at United with the Nerazzurri almost certain Champions League qualifiers year-on-year in Serie A, something United cannot say for themselves.
