They had one job! Bungling council staff Tarmac round parked Transit van somewhat than transfer it

Bungling workers at a Labour-run council have tarmacked around a parked van, leaving locals baffled.

The white Transit van was parked up on the road but contractors did not let that stop them from going about their job.

It was half on the pavement and half on the street and therefore the road was tarmacked around the vehicle.

The blunder happened in Rosedale Drive, in the Wollaton area of Nottingham, which locals describe as ‘disgraceful’ for being blighted by potholes like much of the UK.

One resident joked and described it as ‘such a cr** job I had to laugh’.

She added: ‘The roads in Wollaton are disgraceful. I have been reporting some of them for years.

‘The roads near the schools are appalling; they are so bad in Wollaton. Potholes everywhere.

‘Highways were told years ago to fix some of the really bad roads, and they still haven’t been done yet.’

The ridiculous job was spotted on Sunday, and many others made light of the resurfacing.

Suzanne Croft added: ‘You’ve got to laugh or it would make you cry.’

Jean Lloyd said: ‘Nothing surprises me anymore.’

Sharon King joked: ‘More potholes for next year.’

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: ‘People are given advance notice of the work.

‘And are asked to move their vehicles for a short period of time when work is taking place.’

This isn’t the first time that local authorities were the laughing stock for their worker’s lazy resurfacing work.

Last year, the owners of an ‘abandoned’ Ford pick-up truck were told they had to move their vehicle after council workers were force to tarmac around it during resurfacing works.

Residents said the council should have it towed away as no-one had seen it moved since at least June 2021.

The classic-style truck came to the attention of the council when residents of Marina Gardens, in Weymouth, Dorset, were asked to move their vehicles for upcoming roadworks.

However the owners were nowhere to be seen which forced contractors to leave a 30ft by 10ft patch around the vehicle unsurfaced — prompting complaints from residents that the work was a waste of taxpayers money.

Locals say the truck has not been moved in about three years, but it is taxed so it is not legally abandoned.

Now, Dorset Council has warned that the truck could be moved by November under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, if the owner does not come forward.

The road was resurfaced for the first time in almost 30 years in March, but the bare patch around the truck had to be left untouched.

Carl Jones owns a holiday home in Marina Gardens and has been coming down from the Midlands for three years.

He said: ‘That van never moves. It’s an eyesore. It is terrible and it is worse for my neighbours who are here all of the time.

‘When I saw the resurfacing I could not believe it, I have never seen anything like that in my life.

‘I am in construction myself, I have my own company. I’d have picked the wagon up, tarmacked and then put it back.
