BREAKING ‘Gunman on the free’ at UK golf membership as armed police swarm the scene

Armed police have swarmed the grounds of a golf club after a bungling mix up led to reports of a “gunman” being “on the loose”.

Derbyshire police were summoned to Horsley Lodge – a popular wedding venue, golf club, restaurant and hotel just a stone’s throw from Derby city centre, following reports of a man armed with a firearm at around 8.30pm on Wednesday (March 26).

Upon arrival, the police engaged in conversation with the man and discovered he had been granted permission by a staff member to be on the premises. However, this information had not been shared to all staff members. A representative for Derbyshire police stated: “We were called to reports of a man with a firearm at Horsley Lodge golf course at 8.30pm last night.

“Firearms officers attended the location and found the man and spoke to him. He had permission from a member of staff to be on the site, however not all members of staff had been made aware.

“The man was found to have all the correct paperwork and was a fully licensed firearms holder. There was no further action.”
