Coronation Street star Chloe Newsome was barely recognisable as she posed for a photo after finding fame on the ITV soap in the Nineties.

It has been 27 years since the actress, 48, last appeared on the long-running series after departing the Cobbles in 1998 following a seven-year stint.

Chloe has remained out of the spotlight since her exit but she is best known for being the second actress to play Vicky McDonald.

The soap star, who was born in Sheffield, replaced Helen Warburton – who played the part for a year before she joined the programme.

Vicky joined the show as the daughter of Alec Gilroy before finding love with Steve McDonald, who she married to become his first wife.

Following her parents’ deaths, Vicky was raised by Alec and Bet and she inherited £240,000 upon turning 18.

But sadly Vicky’s funds were drained by Steve, who lost the money on stolen whiskey, and their marriage began to deteriorate.

Vicky exited the show and the character was said to have moved to Brighton to open a wine bar.

But Vicky faced her own financially difficulties while running the bar and rang Bet to ask for a loan to keep things stable.

In 2002, it was revealed that Vicky happily married a man named Martin. She has not been mentioned on the soap since.

Away from Corrie, Chloe lives a quiet family life in her hometown of Sheffield while keeping her followers updated with wholesome snaps.

After leaving the show she appeared on stage in several Shakespeare productions including Twelfth Night, Othello and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

She appeared in The Jealous God (2005) but largely stepped away from acting due to the unstable nature of the industry.

Chloe’s last appearance on screen was in Lost Christmas (2011) with Eddie Izzard, Jason Flemyng and Connie Hyde.

Last year, Corrie fans were convinced that one of Steve’s ex wives was set to make a return to the show after 20 years.

He first married Vicky McDonald (Chloe Newsome) in 1995, before walking down the aisle with Karen Phillips (Suranne Jones) in 2001.

Steve then wed Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly) in 2009, before he married Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) in 2015.

Daisy asked Steve in the pub during Wednesday’s episode: ‘Who was your least favourite punter?’ as he responded: ‘Tracy.’

She then quizzed: ‘Which of your four ex wives do you miss the most?’

He immediately replied: ‘Karen, next question.’

Daisy continued: ‘If you could go back in time and marry only one of them, who would you choose?’ as Steve failed to respond before she got distracted.

Steve’s mention of Karen was enough to get fans excited about a potential return, despite him just mentioning her name.

One person posted: ‘Coronation street… Karen macdonald…. So tonight… Steve admits that karen was his favourite wife… Is this a sign.. Is karen aka suranne Jones coming back [sic]’

Another pointed out: ‘The wife Steve Macdonald would remarry, Karen #Corrie.’

Suranne left Corrie in 2004 after four years on the soap.

She’s gone on to have an incredible career in TV, starring in shows such as Doctor Foster, The Secret Of Crickley Hall, Unforgiven, Maryland and more.

Suranne most recently starred in the second series of BBC drama Vigil, alongside Game Of Thrones actress Rose Leslie.
