An easyJet flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a woman fell ill and slipped out of consciousness – the incident left the pilot pleading passengers onboard for help over the radio.
The easyJet flight from Tenerife to Liverpool made an emergency diversion after a medical emergency occurred onboard. The pilot of the craft sent out an urgent request for any doctors or nurses on board to help. After the request the pilot made an unscheduled landing at Santiago-Rosalia de Castro Airport in Galicia, Spain.
Air traffic control revealed the plane was diverted while attempts were made to “revive a 67-year-old passenger who was unconscious”.
The woman who fell unconscious is believed to have been travelling while accompanied by both her husband and a friend.
An easyJet spokesman said: “Flight EZY3366 from Tenerife to Liverpool on Tuesday evening was required to divert to Santiago–Rosalia de Castro where it was met by paramedics due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.”
Air traffic control published a statement X revealing more detail on the ordeal: “The crew of the flight from Tenerife South to Liverpool informed us that they needed to urgently divert to the airport at Santiago because they were trying to revive a 67-year-old female passenger who was unconscious.”
The statement added: “We facilitated a continuous descent and approach to runway 35 while medical care on the ground was coordinated with the airport. We wish the passenger a speedy recovery.”
This comes after a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai was forced to divert after a pilot forgot their passport. The Boeing 787-9 embarked on an almost 14-hour flight from LAX airport on Saturday (March 22) just before 2pm.
The aircraft climbed to a height 32,000ft after travelling for about one hour and 45 minutes the crew turned around over the Pacific. American Airlines cited the reason for the diversion as a “crew-related issue”
The “crew-related” issue was due to one of the pilots realising that he had forgotten their passport.
Flight UA198 landed in San Francisco and passengers were given $15 meal vouchers as a means of compensation. A Replacement crew boarded the plane before the aircraft took off a second time for Shanghai.
United Airlines said in a statement: “Your flight diverted to San Francisco due to an unexpected crew-related issue requiring a new crew. Once they arrive, we’ll get you back on your way to Shanghai as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for this disruption and appreciate your patience.”
