Father-of-two, 43, dies after ‘assault’ outdoors JD Wetherspoon pub – as two males, of their 20s, are arrested
A father-of-two has died after he was ‘attacked’ outside a Wetherspoons pub in Newcastle.
Darren Tulip, 43, suffered serious injuries as police rushed to the Mile Castle pub in Grainger Street last Thursday evening.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where, despite the efforts of medical staff, Mr Tulip passed away ‘surrounded by family’ on Tuesday.
Two men in their twenties have since been arrested.
A GoFundMe page set up by Mr Tulip’s devastated family describes the 43-year-old as someone who ‘loved to party’.
Organiser Chloe Louise Tulip said: ‘On March 20 2025 we got a phone call that would devastate all of our lives, as a lot of people would have seen Darren was involved in a incident that has now sadly lost him his life.
‘He’s left behind his four babies, a devastated girlfriend and a heart broken family as well as so many friends that cared about and loved him.
‘Darren took his last breaths surrounded by people that adored him and grew his wings on Wednesday 25th March 2025.

A police spokesman said: ‘Our investigation into the circumstances of how Darren came to sustain his injuries continues and several lines of enquiry have already been carried out’
‘We all know how loud Darren was and how much he loved to party, he’d want the biggest send off with everyone there.
‘We all know funerals aren’t cheap and we know how much everyone loves Darren so even a pound would be appreciated and a massive help to give him the best send off and for his four kids that now have to grow up without their dad because of someone else’s actions.
‘Everyone knows how much Darren loved a drink, so treat him to his final pint and let’s give him the send off he deserves.’
Detective Chief Inspector Tomasz Fowler, of Northumbria Police, said: ‘Firstly, we’d like to say that our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of Darren who has sadly died.
‘Specially trained officers continue to support his next of kin at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.
