A 17-year-old student from a nearby school told the outlet: ‘There was an incredible crash. I have never experienced anything like it.
‘I saw the bus cross the roadway boundary, and it stood vertically for a few seconds before moving straight down.
‘There was an immense splash in the water, and everyone around started yelling.’
Italian media outlet Corriere della Sera reports that the crash was most likely caused by illness.
The tour bus had been headed to Milan to pick up a group of elementary school children for a school trip to the Egyptian Museum in Turin.
During the manoeuvre, the coach collided with three women, who sustained minor injuries.
Stefano Lo Russo, the Mayor of Turin, said: ‘The investigations are just beginning. The only objective thing we have are the videos from the cameras, both from the Police Headquarters and ours.’
He added: ‘From the examination of the cameras, you can see the bus arriving from Lungo Po Cadorna, turning right into Piazza Vittorio and approaching the first exedra.
‘After that it begins a reverse maneuver at an angle of 45 degrees, therefore unusual for what is normal way of driving a vehicle, it crosses the entire interchange area of the intersection, hits the balustrade of the Murazzi del Po and sinks with the rear part into the river, then resting on the left side of the vehicle.’
