Phil Foden has been accused of being a huge England flop.

Foden has become one of the stand-out players of his generation at club level, having won 17 trophies with Manchester City.

The 24-year-old midfielder was named as the Premier League Player of the Season and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year last summer.

But despite all his domestic success, the attacking midfielder has struggled to replicate the same form on the international stage.

Since making his England debut in 2020, Foden has scored just four goals in 45 appearances, and failed to impress at Euro 2024, despite his stellar form for City.

And Jamie Carragher believes the likes of Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka have left Foden trailing in their wake when it comes to performing on the highest stage.

Speaking on Sky Bet’s ‘Stick to Football Podcast’, Carragher told Foden he has to do more if he wants to stand a chance of being involved in the England squad at the 2026 World Cup.

Carragher said: “Phil Foden has played every position for England, and he just hasn’t done anything.

“We all love him and he’s amazing for Manchester City, but he hasn’t done it for England.

“He’s not a used car, and he hasn’t done enough for England. He got picked at a similar time to Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.

“But those two grabbed their chance and took it. There is no way they’re getting left out”.
