Jealous stalker ‘drags his ex-girlfriend right into a bush by her hair and rapes her for refusing to swear on the Koran that she didn’t cheat on him’

A jealous stalker is on trial for allegedly dragging his ex-girlfriend into a bush by her hair and raping her because she refused to swear on the Koran that she did not cheat on him. 

Bulgarian national Ilia K., 24, was led into courtroom 12E of the Frankfurt Regional Court in handcuffs today to face charges of rape and bodily harm against his 19-year-old girlfriend, identified only as Döndü G. 

Ilia K is alleged by German prosecutors to have lured Döndü to a park in Nordweststadt, northern Frankfurt, on June 25 last year, Bild reported. 

Prosecutors told the court: ‘He asked her to place her hand on the Koran and swear that she hadn’t cheated on him.’

The woman refused, saying that since she was on her period she couldn’t touch the holy book. 

Guidance from several sources in the Islamic world state that women are not allowed to touch, or even recite, the Koran while they are menstruating. 

But this allegedly didn’t matter to Ilia, who is said to have threatened his ex-girlfriend with death several times before beating her. 

He allegedly then dragged her to a bush by her hair and raped her. Ilia is then said to have threatened to attack her again and film it, with the intention of sharing the video.

According to prosecutors, Döndü broke up with him in 2023 after he beat her with a baseball bat. 

He was given just ten months probation for this. 

Despite this conviction, he is said to have continued to stalk and harass her. 

Public prosecutor Luisa Mende stated: ‘He had repeatedly threatened to kill and stab the victim and also threatened family members.’ 

Ilia remained silent as his charges were read out, with his lawyer,  Ivo Hänel, telling the court: ‘Today, he is to remain silent; he will not make any submissions, neither about the crime nor about his personal circumstances.’

Shockingly, he asked the judge presiding over the case to kiss and hug his mother before leaving, a request that was refused. 

The case will next be heard on March 31. Döndü may be forced to look her alleged tormentor in the eye, as Ilia’s lawyer has rejected a video interrogation from an adjoining room, though the judge has not yet ruled on this yet.
