Podcaster James English accused of hitting and kicking his pregnant ex
James English, who hosts the Anything Goes podcast, is accused of domestic abuse against his ex partner including while she was pregnant – he appeared in court today
A Scottish podcaster has appeared in court after being accused of domestic abuse against his ex partner including while she was pregnant.
James English, who hosts the Anything Goes podcast, is alleged to have struck his ex partner, pinned her against a wall and grabbed her neck and pinned her against a door when she was pregnant.
He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday morning (March 27). He is yet to enter a plea.
The 42-year-old, also allegedly seized her head and caused her injury by pressing his thumbs into her eyebrows, again when she was pregnant.
English, Larkhall, Lanarkshire, is also accused of striking her face with an open hand, pulling her hair and causing her to lose her balance and kicking her on the body and causing her to fall off a bed.
Further charges say he allegedly threatened to remove a child from her care. The charge sheet said English refused to let his partner breastfeed in public and repeatedly criticised her abilities as a mother.
Other accusations include:
- Sending threatening and abusive text messages
- That he isolated his partner from her friends and family and repeatedly contacted her by telephone
- Shouting and swearing at her repeatedly and threatening her with violence
- Criticising his partner’s choice of clothing and controlling what clothes she wore
- Repeatedly accusing her of being unfaithful
- Searching her clothes and “interrogating” her mobile phone to find evidence of cheating
- That he controlled the amount of money she had access to and threatened to cut that access off
- Gave her expensive gifts and demanded them back again
- Repeatedly demanded that she delete her social media platforms and restricted her use of social media platforms in an attempt to restrict her financial independence
- Driving his partner, on a number of occasions, to a train station and then driving her home again
In all, the detailed charge lists 19 separate incidents where English is alleged to have abused his former partner, the Daily Record reported.
In the meantime, he has been instructed not to contact his alleged victim in any way.
