Tourist submarine carrying 44 at vacation hotspot sinks with a number of useless

At least six people have died off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, after an accident involving a tourist submarine.

Named ‘Sinbad’, the submarine was reportedly carrying about 44 passengers of different nationalities during a trip inspecting the coral reefs underwater. Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the shore near the site of the incident. Nine people were injured, including four who are in critical condition, while 29 others were rescued.

The cause of the incident remains unknown. The Red Sea Security Directorate has confirmed receiving a report about a tourist submarine sinking near the marina of a renowned hotel, leading to several fatalities and injuries.

Numerous operators offer tourist submarine tours from Hurghada harbour, providing trips to the nearby coral reef and marine wildlife.

Hurghada, a favourite coastal hotspot, offers regular submarine excursions from its harbour into the Red Sea. The submarine involved in today’s accident has been serving tourists for a number of years, as reported by local press.

Insiders confirmed to the Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper that both the Red Sea Health Directorate and the Egyptian Ambulance Authority are on high alert. A fleet of 21 ambulances have been sent to the scene to ferry the injured to hospital.
