XL bully caravan massacre left sufferer with 20 chew wounds and nightmares of the beast
The own of an XL bully who brutalised a man in a savage attack has been sentenced – following the horrify attack the victim was plagued by images of the beast in his nightmares
An XL bully caravan bloodbath has landed its hungover owner a suspended prison sentence.
Christopher Steele, who had previously worked at Edwards Leisure Park in Towyn, North Wales, was brutally attacked by Vanessa Brennan’s XL bully, Stan, who latched on to the worker’s leg and savaged him with as many as 20 vicious bites.
The Liverpool Echo reported the handyman sustained “between 12 and 17 puncture wounds” and a “large open tear” above his ankle and since the attack. Alongside this Steele has revealed he needs to take a cocktail of medication “just to sleep and get through the day”. Zahra Baqri, prosecuting the case at Liverpool Crown Court described how Steele “genuinely felt scared for his life” during the incident.
Steele revealed that he is now plagued with nightmares envisioning himself “trying to get a dog’s jaws off a child’s throat” and the horrific attack left the 33-year-old man with fears his leg might need to be amputated. After the attack Merseyside Police attended Brennan’s address on an order to seize Stan, the XL bully.
In an interview with the Merseyside Police detectives claimed the woman “played down the incident” and she “played down the attack.”
Alongside this during the interview with police the Brennan alleged the victim of the attack attempted to hit the animal with a stick and the also claimed she had not seen her animal bite Mr Steele.
Defending Brennan, Peter White told the court: “During the course of the unfortunate attack, Ms Brennan did make efforts, maybe futile efforts, to try and stop it. The dog clearly was dangerous, but she was not quite aware of the danger that was posed. She did comply with neutering the dog and registering it with the Home Office, and there is no suggestion that it was previously without a lead or muzzle in a public place.
He added: “She is filled with remorse for the injuries caused to Mr Steele. She has been going to the caravan park for a number of years. She knows this gentleman. She would not wish any ill will towards him.”
After admitting to being the owner of the dog Brennan received a 20-month imprisonment suspended for two years. The Liverpool Echo reported the judge also disqualified the woman from owning a dog for the next 10 years. This means she must surrender her two other XL bully mixed breeds.
Since the incident Brennan’s XL bully, Stan, has been destroyed.
