Man United ‘may pay DOUBLE former Wolves flop’s £50m launch clause’ as Ruben Amorim identifies high goal forward of summer time rebuild

Ruben Amorim will look to pay over the asking price for one of Manchester United’s top transfer targets in the upcoming summer window, according to reports. 

Mail Sport revealed on Wednesday that Man United were interested in adding the head coach’s former player at Sporting Lisbon, Francisco Trincao, to their attacking ranks at the end of the season, with Southampton‘s Tyler Dibling another player being watched with interests. 

The Red Devils will be seeking to rebuild their squad and make wholesale changes for the first major transfer window of Amorim’s tenure after a disappointing season. 

Man United sit 13th in the Premier League after an uneven string of results, with only the Europa League in contention after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham. 

The club’s hopes of improving their position in the immediate will face a tough test when they visit Nottingham Forest upon the return to Premier League action in the wake of the international break. 

But looking to the future, Amorim is keen to recruit the former Wolves loanee – even if he comes with a hefty price tag.

As per the Sun, Man United will reportedly be subject to a fee more than the £50million release clause attached to the player, with Sporting keen to make a hefty profit on Trincao. 

The increase lies in the deal Sporting struck with Trincao’s former club, Barcelona, when he moved in 2023 in a deal worth £3m. 

The Blaugrana are believed to have kept hold of 50 per cent of their old player’s transfer rights, and Sporting are thought to be keen to make at least £35m from the sale – which in turn could see United spend as much as double his release clause to secure their man. 

Trincao’s experience in the Premier League reportedly appeals to the head coach, but Amorim is unlikely to find total comfort in his season-long stint at Molineux in 2021. 

The then-22-year-old scored just three goals in his 30 appearances in old gold, leaving after a solitary season to join Sporting on a temporary deal made permanent in 2023. 

Trincao has been in rip-roaring form during the current campaign, with 18 goal contributions for the Portuguese outfit. 

The player also found the back of the net in some style during the international break, scoring twice for Portugal during their second-leg tie against Denmark to send them through to the Nations League semi-final.

Players such as Aston Villa loanee Marcus Rashford are thought to be under consideration in the summer clear-out

In a bid to fund his summer revamp, Amorim is gearing up for a Manchester fire sale with ten players believed to be earmarked to depart Old Trafford. 

Among the number are some of the players Man United have on loan, including Marcus Rashford, who is enjoying a resurgence of form at Aston Villa after his January move. 

Jadon Sancho – currently on loan at Chelsea – is another star the club are believed to be keen to offload, but they could encounter some difficulty. 

The west London side have a temporary deal with an obligation to purchase the player at the end of the season dependent on league position, but could pay £5m compensation instead should his performances not improve.
