Notorious mass child killer Mick Philpott has been left “battered and bruised” after being brutally beat up behind bars say prison sources.
The evil dad, who caused the death of six of his children in a horror house fire, was reportedly targeted by a fellow inmate in a surprise attack as other lags “laughed” while watching on.
Philpott, 68, was “pounced” on from behind and was “whacked” multiple times in the commotion that set off alarms in HMP Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where he has been serving his lengthy prison sentence.
He was left in a “bad way” after the attack, suffering bruising and large lumps on the back of his head according to the reports.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “It was one bloke on his own – someone quite a bit younger than Philpott and it happened really quickly on the landing. There was a huge commotion, an alarm was going off and guards rushed in to help.
“Otherwise it could have been a lot worse for Philpott. Philpott was feeling very sorry for himself after the attack – but no-one had much sympathy. That is reserved for the children he killed.”
Lag Philpott did not receive any medical attention at the hospital and was instead treated at the prison as staff were able to tend to his injuries.
The infamous killer is an ‘obvious’ target for vicious prison attacks because of his young victims and also because of the extremity of his evil crimes.
Those who are locked up because they have harmed children are regarded as the ‘lowest of the low’, the source explained. This means even fellow lags will look down on them and see it as a ‘challenge’ to beat them up.
The Philpott attacker used a “heavy flask” in the brutal beating, which could have ended very badly for the child killer if he suffered a few more blows.
Prison officers have now heightened security for Philpott in case of anymore attacks. The source continued: “Now they have increased security around Philpott and they are making a lot more checks on him.
“He is the lowest of the low, even in prison, so has always got a target on his back. People were laughing about the attack after it happened. He’s a child killer at the end of the day so no-one felt sorry for him.”
Philpott has been behind bars since 2013 after attempting to orchestrate a scheme to bag a bigger council house and to win a custody battle with an ex-lover.
The dad, alongside wife Mairead and friend Paul Mosley, decided to start a fire in the family home and plotted to carry the children out of the back window in a bid to be the ‘hero’.
However, after starting the fire with petrol in the hallway, the house was quickly engulfed in a fireball killing his innocent children inside.
Jade Philpott, 10, and brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, Jayden, five, and Duwayne, 13, lost their lives in the fire that was started by their own dad.
Philpott has been serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years, he is eligible for parole in 2027. Wife Mairead and friend Paul were also jailed, but have since been released.
