Man United make resolution over whether or not wonderkid Chido Obi, 17, can play in crunch FA Youth Cup semi-final after impressing beneath Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have allowed Chido Obi to return to the Under-18s for tonight’s crucial FA Youth Cup semi-final against Aston Villa.

Obi scored seven goals in the first three rounds, with braces against Coventry City and Preston North End, before a hat-trick against Chelsea.

But having been left out of the quarter-final away to Arsenal following promotion to Ruben Amorim’s first team, it was unclear if he would feature in the tournament again this season, particularly given the first team’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

But Mail Sport understands Obi is part of United’s travelling squad heading to Villa Park in what represents a huge boost to Under-18 boss Adam Lawrence.

Harry Amass could be involved for the senior team against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday

Obi broke into Amorim’s matchday squad away to Tottenham and has since earned cameos against Everton, as well as Fulham in the FA Cup, due to a lack of options in attack.

United’s youngsters struck three times away at Arsenal, Obi’s former club, in the last round through Jack Fletcher, Jaydan Kamason and Bendito Mantato, but Obi’s return helps boost United’s hopes of making the final for the first time since they won it in 2022.

Mail Sport understands Harry Amass will not be involved this evening as he could feature against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. 

Amass, 18, made his senior debut in United’s 3-0 win over Leicester before the international break.
