Liverpool ‘have many points’ and ‘there’s one key motive’ he needs to affix Real Madrid
Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to be Madrid-bound with his contract at Liverpool expiring in the summer and Man Utd icon completely understands the move
Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract saga has been one of the stories of the season on the River Mersey. And it all looks set to end with a move to Real Madrid.
And Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has admitted he knows why Alexander-Arnold wants to leave Liverpool in a recent episode of the overlap.
“I can understand why Trent Alexander-Arnold wants to go,” Scholes said speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, brought to you by Sky Bet.
“When we were growing up with the team we had, I try to imagine if a team like a Real Madrid or a Barcelona [came in for one of our players] and we were a dominant team – we felt like we could go on for a long time and win leagues and challenge for European cups.
“It didn’t work out as well as we wanted, but I don’t think any of us would have wanted to go. If you talk about the Manchester United team now, then yes – good luck, you deserve to go.
“Trent is possibly looking at Liverpool and thinking other than having a good team and winning the Premier League, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a dominant team for years to come.
“It still feels like there’s a few issues at Liverpool with Trent, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah. There still looks like there’s work to do.
“You go to Real Madrid, and they are going to win leagues and European cups for the next 10 years so I can understand him wanting to do it from that point of view.”
The 26-year-old England star has been with Liverpool since he was just six years old.
It’s still up in the air whether Van Dijk or Salah will pen new contracts at the club, even though they’re on the brink of bagging a second Premier League title under Arne Slot’s maiden managerial season.
