Nico Williams fires off two-word message as Arsenal in £55m switch discussions
Arsenal are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and have been linked with two players in the last 48 hours as Mikel Arteta looks to add new signings to his squad
Nico Williams has sent a very clear message during a pivotal few days for Arsenal.
Following on from the weekend appointment of Andrea Berta as the Gunners’ new sporting director, links to two players have ramped up significantly over the last 48 hours.
A busy summer is expected in north London with multiple outgoing and departures on the cards as Mikel Arteta plans for a significant squad shake-up.
The official arrival of Berta is the first major move made and it looks as though several others are being considered.
The former Atletico Madrid chief is a huge fan of Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, with a transfer interest in him now having stepped up, as per the Athletic.
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig are the other main striker transfer options.
In midfield, Arsenal will likely have to find replacements for both Thomas Partey and Jorginho, with Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad expected to be one of those.
Arteta could also look at bringing in teenage star Sverre Nypan of Rosenberg or alternatively push Myles Lewis-Skelly into midfield.
Another potentially marquee addition could come out wide with Bayern Munich and former Manchester City star Leroy Sane now looking to be the chosen signing with talks having been held, reports Football London.
If that deal materialises, he would arrive as a free agent with the five-year contract signed in 2020 when he joined the German giants for £54.8million set to expire in just a few months.
Williams has also emerged as a prime target for Arteta, having been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium since last summer.
However, his salary demands pose a significant hurdle, and his deep-rooted affection for his childhood club might see him stay in Spain.
His commitment to Athletic Bilbao was highlighted by a pointed message on Instagram as the team gears up for the season’s climax, aiming to clinch the Europa League title at their home ground.
Accompanying an action photo, he emphatically stated: “Still focus!”
After a stalemate with Osasuna, the Basque outfit is set to take on Villarreal in their next La Liga fixture, followed by the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Rangers on the subsequent Thursday.
