Body is discovered on M5 as motorway is closed in each instructions to spark big delays for drivers

A body has been found on the M5, prompting the motorway to be closed in both directions and causing huge delays for drivers.

There was traffic chaos in the West Midlands this morning thanks to the grim discovery and a previous crash which both led to lengthy queues.

The remains were discovered between junctions two and three, between Quinton and Oldbury, with police called to the scene.

According to National Highways, long delays of at least 45 minutes are being seen on approach to the closure.

Separately, a ‘serious’ collision has left the M5 also closed between junction one at West Bromwich and the M6.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

CCTV cameras show long queues of traffic in both directions at the points of closure.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: ‘We are at the scene of two incidents on the M5 and it is currently closed in both directions at Oldbury/Quinton.

‘It’s shut J3 at Quinton to J2 at Oldbury after a body was found in the carriageway. Following a separate collision it’s shut north between J3 and the M6.’

This is a breaking news story and is being updated.
