It’s taken nine weeks, but Stephen Bunting is off the mark in Premier League Darts.

The Bullet raised the roof with both his walk-on and his performance from the oche as he dumped Nathan Aspinall out in Berlin. It was a D8 that made all the difference as Bunting ended his losing streak on the biggest stage.

Glen Durrant, who was commenting on Sky Sports said: “The smile on his face, the engagement with the crowd – his head and his shoulders have been down a little bit [in previous weeks], almost like he was feeling a little embarrassed.

“He wants to do it for the crowd, for his family and friends and he’s doing exactly that at the moment!”

And fans quickly flooded social media after the win, and one joked: “Hearing Bunting rebound possible tonight, one demolition at a time!”

“Made up for Bunting. Only took him two months to win a match but he got there in the end,” a second said. While a third posted: “Buzzing for Bunting there. Deserved that. He’s not been playing poorly either!”

“Great performance from Bunting to silence the haters,” a fourth shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

And another added: “That’s it game over for everyone now Bunting is on the board. Viva the Bullet!”

Speaking ahead of the evening, Bunting said: “I’ve played some really good stuff on the ProTour, and getting those wins under my belt has been massive for my confidence.

“I’ve been happy with my performances. My scoring has been really strong, but my doubles have let me down in certain moments and at this level, a game can switch on one mistake.

“I honestly cannot wait to get my first win, and with the confidence I’ve gained this week, I’m really looking forward to the game against Nathan tomorrow night.

“The atmosphere is going to be incredible. The fanbase I’ve got here in Germany is great, and it would be nice to give something back to them.”
