Legendary horse racing trainer Willie Mullins broke down in tears after watching his son ride Nick Rockett to an emotional Grand National triumph at Aintree.

Amateur jockey Patrick Mullins and his 33-1 shot proved too strong for defending champion I Am Maximus and won by two-and-a-half-lengths.

Incredibly, the result meant that Patrick’s father secured a clean sweep of the podium spots in the iconic steeplechase, while another of his horses also finished fifth.

Shortly after the dramatic showpiece, an emotional Mullins delivered a live interview with ITV but was barely able to muster his words before he choked up.

Rosconn Group Maghull Novices’ Chase winner Kalif Du Berlais can go on and win the Champion Chase next season, winning trainer Paul Nicholls says.

He’s a very smart horse, I thought he’d win today.

He’s a very smart horse, he’s been working great, he’s only five, he’s mature and the worlds at his feet.

I’d like to think that’s a real Champion Chase horse for next season.

Broadway Boy has been treated on the course, assessed by vets and has walked onto a horse ambulance and returned to the stables for further assessment.

Celebre D’Allen has also walked onto a horse ambulance and has been taken back to his stables

Kalif Du Berlais jumps the final fence excellently to win the Rosconn Group Maghull Novices’ Chase by a comfortable distance ahead of Brookie in second and L’eau Du Sud, who finishes third.

We’re underway in the sixth race of the day.

Kalif Du Berlais leads by one lenght.

A stewards inquiry is now underway over the riding of Celebre D’Allen by Micheal Nolan.

Asking whether he should have been pulled up long before he was.

Jockey Tom Bellamy has been taken to the hospital for assessment.

They are being told he has walked into the horse ambulance and a stewards inquiry is now underway over the riding of him.

33-1 Nick Rockett WINS the Grand National in fairytale 1-2-3 sweep for Willie Mullins after holding off favourite I Am Maximus in dramatic finish at Aintree.

• Patrick Mullins, the son of legendary trainer Willie, guided Nick Rockett to victory
• The 33-1 shot held off a late push from the defending champion I Am Maximus
• Nick Rockett finished strongly to take the crown by two and a half lengths

Broadyway Boy and Celebre D’Allen are still being assessed on the course after Boradway Boy took a nasty fall over the 27th fence and Celebre D’Allen was pulled up in the Grand National.

Once we know more, we will keep you updated.

Hoping both horses can walk away from this as they are being assessed by expert veterinarian teams on the course.

What an incredible story it is the winning horse Nick Rockett.

Sadly, his owner Sadie Andrew was not here to witness him be crowned champion of the Grand National championship.

Sadie sadly passed away in December 2022 after a battle with cancer.

Nick Rockett has done it all for me.

She was just perfect. I actually got too good of a start, had to take him back all the way.

I was wondering at the Canal turn if I had lost too much ground but he just jumped fantastic and then I was there too soon.

It was a long way from the back of the last and Paul Townend out on my outside.

It’s everything I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid, It’s a cliche but when I was five, six years old, I remember reading books about the National, so to put my name there is kind of special.

A father-son duo has won the 2025 Grand National.

Nick Rockett has done the unthinkable here today and provided a moment of magic and emotion.

The father-duo win the race in memory of Nick Rockett’s late owner Sadie Andrew, who before she passed told her husband to take the eight-year-old to Willie Mullins yard.

And that he did. Stewart Andrew, Patrick and Willie Mullins will do well to contain their emotions here today.

Broadway Boy has suffered a nasty fall there going over the 27th fence.

He led the race all the way, praying the horse and jockey are okay.

Two have fallen after the 21st race, both jockeys and horses got up straight away.

32 still standing with 13 fences jumped.

Broadway Boy has led the majority of the way so far, followed by Celebre D’Allen and Beauport.

All safely over the Canal Turn but Perceval Legallois falls in the next fence

Duffle Coat is the first to go as he unseats his jockey after jumping the fourth race.

All 34 are safely over the first with Broadway Boy leading.

The 2025 Grand National is underway and we have a new favourite.

Iroko has leapfrogged I am Maximus

Defending champion I Am Maximus is the favourite heading into the 9-minute long steeplechase race.

He is looking to become the first Grand National back-to-back champion since Tiger Roll back in 2018 and 2019.

Racing never stops. We are spoilt with the Cheltentham Festival, Royal Ascot and all those historic Classics but the one everyone wants to win, whether you are a champion trainer such as Willie Mullins or a once-a-year punter, is the Aintree extravaganza. That’s why it means more.

Yes, the Grand National has been under the microscope in recent years. I’ve been interviewed a lot about it in the build-up to this Festival, which continues to grow from strength to strength, and dealt with people telling me that it isn’t the race it was.

It certainly isn’t the event I grew up worshipping, with fences that seemed as big as mountains, but it can’t be that race. It’s had to modernise, particularly so after the running in 2023 when, for the first time in my life, I felt uncomfortable watching.

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has Hitman in the 2025 Grand National.

The Paul Nicholls trained horse is currently 40/1 with Paddy Power.

Bookies are growing increasingly anxious about the amount of money being placed on Hewick for the Grand National with the gelding backed into 14/1 (from 66/1).

Hewick has become somewhat of a cult hero. He made headlines in 2022 when Hanlon took him into his local pub, The Pint Depot in County Carlow to celebrate winning the US Grand National.

Hewick was filmed drinking from a pint of Guinness to the shock and glee of punters.

Exercise jockey Matthew Rigney who was on the scene said at the time: ‘The story is brilliant. To buy a horse like Hewick for £800 just never happens.

Attention now turns to Britain’s biggest jump race.

We are just a half hour away as 34 runners get set to compete for the £1million hurdle steeplechase.

Rachael Blackmore has made a name for herself as ‘the queen of jump’ after becoming the first female jockey to win the Grand National in its 186-year history in 2021.

She further cemented her name in the history books by repeating the feat at the Cheltenham Gold Cup back in 2022.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Brian Hayes, will be looking to add to the eight wins he has achieved in the past year.

This will see her in the spotlight again this weekend as she goes head-to-head with her jockey boyfriend in the most famous steeplechase in the world, the Grand National in Aintree.

Harry Skelton is crowned the David Power Jockeys’ Cup Champion.

‘This is a massive moment,’ said Skelton, who rides Threeunderthrufive in the Randox Grand National.

This has been a massive opportunity for us and we have accepted it with open arms in the weighing room and we have been ultra-competitive. It’s just fantastic to have won it.

I suppose if I had given twenty quid to everyone who has asked me in the last 24 hours, I wouldn’t have much left! But racing has been fantastic for me and I would love to help bring some young talent into the sport. I’ve been speaking about it with Lizzie Kelly and we have some ideas in mind.

I’d love to be able to use some of this money for good. We want to give something back to the sport and I hope I can give my family some benefits from it, too.

DJ O’Keefe rides Hidden Valley Lake home first to pick up yet another Grade 1 victory for Henry de Bromhead.

Hidden Valley Lake jumps excellently over the last fence, opening a three-length gap to take the top prize in the Liverpool Hurdle.

Strong Leader finishes second as Jetara runs home third.

Jetara takes the lead off Mommiral.

Race number four got off to a shaky start, with some of the bunch clipping each other’s heels.

Monmiral leads with seven fences to go, followed by Strong Leader.

Just under an hour to go until the Grand National.

One of the well-faniced runners for the Liverpool Hurdle, Teahupoo has been pulled from the 3:05pm race.

The change in conditions today could be the reason.

Cruz Control takes the lead, Imperial Saint and Erne River lead the charge but the he can’t be caught.

The two frontrunners Imperial Saint and Docpickedme remain three lengths clear of the rest of the pack.

He’s certainly well named, Honesty Policy.

He’s as honest as the day is long. I thought we went a good gallop, it’s only his fourth run over hurdle.

He’s still inexperienced but in fairness to him once he got going on the third last.

He never let his head off the ground and he got it the whole way up to the line.

Delighted for Gordon and all the team, it means a lot to them.

Honesty Policy wins the Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle runners for the McManus colours ahead of Regent’s Stroll.

A theme is quickly developing here at Aintree today, with horses coming from nowhere, charging from the back of the back to take the line ahead of the leaders of the pack.

The pack is now bunched. Regent’s Stroll still leads but Kocktail Divin ridden by Rachael Blackmore, is running a good race.

Regent’s Stroll is in the lead by two lengths ahead of Koktail Divin, followed by Miami Magic with six hurdles to go

We’re underway in the second race of the day after a delayed start.

Miami Magic lost a good bit of ground with that standing start, but he is already moving through the field.

There is no denying that the start to that race was a bit strange to put it lightly.

Every horse racing fan wishes for a rolling start, but the starter has got that wrong; some runners are still trotting when he gives the go-ahead for the race to start, resulting in a few of the runners falling behind early on.

Ruby Walsh on the starter:

I don’t want to be knocking the starter because I wouldn’t do the starter’s job for ten times the salary…

But yes, I think he has got it wrong here.

Whatcouldhavebeen is the one to look at in the blue colours as they come forward.

They are jig-jogging at this stage which is allowed but when they break from the jig-jog and go into a cantar, that can’t be a start.

I thought, good control, happy today.

It’s worked out nicely. He’s a good-moving horse and it was perfect.

It’s what it’s about, it’s where you want to be riding.
