Here we go, it’s time for the big one. It’s been quite the two days at Aintree – but everything leads up to this.

BEAUPORT (4.00) has the class and stamina to gallop to glory in the Randox Grand National.

Jockey Sam Twiston-Davies gets the leg-up and his trainer father Nigel has already won the race twice before with Earth Summit and Bindaree.

Running in the colours made famous by 1983 Aintree hero Corbiere, Beauport has been aimed at the world’s greatest steeplechase all season

And he has already won two Nationals – the Midlands and Berkshire versions – and has proven stamina. He also has a bit of class which he highlighted when third in the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December.

His canny trainer gave him another spin over hurdles in February to protect his handicap rating and he arrives at Aintree fresh and well.

He will have to fend off a barrage of strong Irish raiders including last year’s winner I Am Maximus, Stumptown, Hewick, Intense Raffles and last year’s third Minella Indo.

But at around 20-1 with William Hill – he was 33-1 a week ago – he is a great price and should give his backers a run for their money given plenty of luck.

Hewick is a class act who won the 2023 King George VI Chase at Kempton. The £800 bargain buy has won £750,000 in career prize money and has been a little superstar for his owner and his trainer Shark Hanlon.

Stumptown cannot stop winning and scored at the Cheltenham Festival in the Cross Country Chase. That was only three weeks ago and it is a big ask for him to produce another pitch perfect performance but he is tough and improving.

Intense Raffles won the Irish National in 2024 and has the scope to improve much more. He also has stamina in abundance although the race may come a year too soon.

Minella Indo won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2021 and was third in this race last year. Rachael Blackmore will do the steering and he is bound to be popular with punters.

Each-way backers could do worse than look at Paul Nicholls’ pair Bravemansgame (40-1) and Threeunderthrufive (33-1).

If Beauport, who likes to race handily, can get into a jumping rhythm he can go down in Aintree folklore.
