Grand National 2025: ‘I’m an astrologist – that is the horse it’s best to again to win’
The Grand National is here and for those wanting some help from the stars for their selection, here is what you should be backing, according to an astrologist
The showpiece at Aintree starts at 4pm on Saturday, April 5 with the 177th running of the Grand National.
From the most avid horse racing fans to the casual viewer, almost everyone will have an eye on the National today, with plenty having a dabble, hoping to back the winner.
The 34-horse field can almost feel like a lottery to decipher, but for those who are hoping for some help through their Zodiac sign, celebrity astrologer Inbaal Honigman, who has teamed up with The Winners Enclosure, revealed which horse you should back in the Grand National based on your star sign.
Pisces
Horse: Nick Rockett
Inbaal reveals that Pisces should back Nick Rockett this year, she said: “Pisces is a sensitive sign, born to love and be loved.
“Nick Rockett hit the headlines with an emotional win in January this year, in honour of his late owner.
“Pisceans are in tune with loved ones who have gone, and Nick Rockett has shown that he is too.”
Cancer
Horse: Threeunder Thrufive
Inbaal said: “One of the most sensitive signs of the zodiac is Cancer, which is family-minded and loving.
“The foaling season for thoroughbreds is from January to June, meaning very few race horses, if any, would be Cancerians, but Threeunder Thrufive is such a Cancerian marvel, and that makes him a rare breed.”
Taurus
Horse: Iroko
Inbaal suggests this year’s antepost favourite Iroko for a Taurus to back, she said: “Taurus is the most grounded sign of the zodiac, never in a rush.
“It is a smart and thoughtful sign, and Iroko has a lot in common with Taurus, as he has been described by his trainers as relaxed and laid back.”
Scorpio
Horse: Intense Raffles
The astrologer revealed that Scorpios should back last year’s Irish Grand National victor Intense Raffles, she said: “Scorpio is the most intense star sign in every way possible as their emotions run deep, and their behaviour doesn’t fall far behind.
“Scorpio is a water sign, which means that they’re very sensitive, and their ruling planet is Mars, a red and passionate planet. Intense Raffles’ name perfectly aligns with an Intense Scorpio.”
Leo
Horse: Vanillier
With a second-place finish in the 2023 Grand National, Inbaal says: “Leo is a proud sign, happy to be different.
“Leos quite like it when all eyes are on them, they don’t mind standing out and Vanillier’s grey coat is certainly unusual, and makes him appear different to his horsey peers.”
Capricorn
Horse: Perceval Legallois
Inbaal said: “Capricorn is a focused and ambitious sign – if it is knocked down, it will always get back up again.
“Perceval Legallois followed a few disappointing races with an impressive return to form, just like a Capricorn would.”
Virgo
Horse: Hyland
Inbaal said: “Virgo is a dependable, grounded sign, but they like to have fun with it too.
“They’re a rare combination of being kind-natured as well as hardworking and Hyland is known for his gift for jumping, showing that he loves being playful while he strives to win.”
Sagittarius
Horse: Minella Indo
She said: “Sagittarius is an adventurous sign, fun-loving and sparkly at any age.
“Minella Indo is still showing ‘lots of spark’ according to Henry de Bromhead, aligning the Gold Cup winner with the lively star sign.”
Aries
Horse: Hewick
Inbaal said: “Aries is the first sign in the wheel of the year, because the nature year starts on the Spring Equinox.
“What Aries lack in bulk, they make up for in enthusiasm, and Gavin Sheehan has called Hewick a ‘little warrior’, which fits with the Aries spirit.”
Libra
Horse: I am Maximus
Inbaal suggests that Libras should back the 2024 Grand National winner, I am Maximus. She said: “Libra is a graceful and elegant sign that enjoys the classier things in life.
“Libra’s ruling planet is Venus, the planet of love and beauty and Nicky Henderson described I am Maximus as ‘a classy horse’, a description which would really suit a Libra.”
Gemini
Horse: Stumptown
She said: “Gemini is a dual sign, they can have two careers at once, excel at two hobbies, even entertain two girlfriends at the same time.
“Stumptown has this dual quality about him too: Is he a cross country horse? Is he a Grand National horse? Why not both, that’s what a Gemini would do.”
Aquarius
Horse: Kandoo Kid
Inbaal said: “Aquarius is a no-drama air sign, independent and smart.
“Harry Cobden has said that Kandoo Kid is ‘a light-framed horse who doesn’t take loads of work’, just like Aquarians who like to work smarter, not harder.”
