Popular Easter Eggs recalled in main supermarkets as customers issued warning
Two batches of the Easter treat by a popular brand have been recalled after a potential health risk was discovered with customers urged to check their purchases and return if necessary
A popular chocolate brand is recalling some of its Easter Eggs over metal fears. Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s are among the supermarkets issuing a ‘do not eat’ warning over the sweet treats.
Tony’s Chocolonely has launched a second recall this week for specific batches of two Large Hollow Easter Eggs due to possible contamination with metal fragments. Shoppers should be wary of the Hollow Milk Caramel Sea Salt Egg and the Hollow Milk Chocolate Egg, both in 242g pack sizes.
They have specific batch codes affected by this issue and are sold across major supermarkets in the UK. Customers who have bought one are urged to thoroughly check if their purchase falls at risk.
If you do, you’re urged to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. The chocolate giant said of the recall: “Tony’s Chocolonely is recalling certain batches of its Large Hollow Easter Egg 242g product in both Milk Chocolate and Caramel Sea Salt flavours due to the potential presence of metal fragments.
“This recall only affects these specific products with a best-before date of June 2025 with certain lot codes. You can check your lot code in our ‘lot code checker’ tool on this page.”
The best-before date on affected eggs will be June 2025. The batch codes include L0355D, L0345D, L0315D, L0305D, L3544D, L3534D, L3524D, L3514D, L3484D, L3374D, L3344D, L3334D, L3324D, L3314D, L3234D, L3204D, L3194D, L3184D.
The company explained: “A lot code is a unique identifier assigned to a specific batch or quantity of products manufactured under the same conditions, used for tracking and traceability. It is printed on the side of the packaging underneath the best before date, usually starting with the letter L.”
They added: “The rest of the Tony’s Chocolonely Easter range, including all its small eggs and all other Tony’s Chocolonely products are not affected by this issue. Do you have an egg with the impacted lot number(s)?
“Please don’t eat the chocolate. Instead, we kindly ask you that you return the product to the store where you bought it for a refund.”
Asda also issued an additional warning, saying: “Tony’s Chocolonely is recalling certain batches of its Milk Chocolate Large Hollow Easter Egg and its Caramel Sea Salt Large Hollow Easter Egg products from stores due to a potential presence of metal fragments. See below for details of affected batches. No other batches are affected.”
Just days ago the Dutch chocolate brand recalled some of its chocolate bars as they may have “tiny chocolate stones” in them. The company had to confirm to confused customers that the recall was not an April Fools joke, saying: “*This is a genuine product recall notice*”.
