Hollywood actor Ben Affleck bizarrely became the face of the World Snooker Championship.

Ahead of the 2025 World Snooker Championship, which begins later this month, the tournament’s broadcaster TNT Sports called on Ben Affleck and fellow Hollywood star Jon Bernthal to promote snooker’s biggest prize.

The world champs were long broadcast on Eurosport, but following the channel’s merger with TNT Sports, this year’s tournament will be shown on the latter for the first time. And it appears TNT have pulled out the stops to promote the occasion.

TNT teamed up with Affleck and Bernthal ahead of their upcoming film The Accountant 2, which releases on April 25.

The two included a number of snooker related puns, including Affleck telling viewers “that’s my cue…” and Bernthal bringing up the 147 break vs nine dart finish vs hole in one debate, as he joked: “Well it’s obvious… one forty seven (147) is the biggest number.”

However, fans couldn’t look past the awful pronunciation of the word snooker, with the American duo both pronouncing the word as “snucker”.

Fans reacted to the video on social media, with one user sarcastically saying: “I cannot wait for the snucker to begin.”

A second added: “They say snooker like Welsh people. So funny them saying the iconic Crucible theatre. I suspect neither had ever heard of the Crucible until that moment.”

A third said: “Surely they playing into it a bit here haha one forty seven.” While another wrote: “Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are promoting the ‘world snucker championships’. What’s ‘snucker’? I only know snooker.”

Kyren Wilson enters the tournament as the defending champion. With Mark Selby and Judd Trump battling it out to be the bookies’ favourites to land the £500,000 winners’ jackpot.

But it’s John Higgins who will arrive as the man in form after beating Mark Selby to lift the Tour Championship in Manchester last weekend.
