Construction employee dies on UK web site sparking police probe as boss left ‘deeply shocked’
An investigation is underway after a man died at a construction site near Colchester, Essex. Emergency services rushed to the site on Monday morning, but the man sadly died at the scene
A tragic incident at a construction site near Colchester has resulted in the death of a man. Emergency services were called to the scene in West Bergholt on Monday morning (April 7) following reports of an accident.
Essex Police, the East of England Ambulance Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service all arrived at the location on Colchester Road just after 11am. A worker in his 40s was reported to have suffered an injury while on duty. Despite frantic attempts to save him, the man tragically lost his life at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is currently being conducted by Essex Police, with support from the Health and Safety Executive.
Steven Rose, the proprietor of Rose Builders, expressed his deep shock and sorrow over the incident. He confirmed that his firm is fully cooperating with the police and Health and Safety Executive, reports Essex Live.
“The thoughts of everyone at Rose are with his wife and family,” he added. “We will look to support them as best we can at this sad and difficult time.”
The incident triggered a significant emergency service response. Police officers, fire crews and medical personnel rushed to the scene, with the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance also dispatched to the emergency.
A spokesperson for Essex Police stated that the deceased man’s family had been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers. Officers will remain at the site over the next few days as their investigations continue.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of an incident in Colchester Road, West Bergholt, at just after 11am on Monday 7 April during which a man who was working at the site sustained an injury.
The ambulance service and fire service were also in attendance. Sadly, the man, aged in his 40s, died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.
“We will be at the location over the coming days as our enquiries continue.”
In 2021, a man died after horror incident at a building site in Annan, Scotland. Police raced to the Ashleigh Building site on Hallmeadow Place after reports of a mast having fallen on top of a man.
A police spokeswoman said: “Around 9.45am on Thursday, 21 January, we were called to a report of a mast having fallen on a 52-year-old man at a building site on Hallmeadow Place, Annan.
“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the incident will be carried out alongside the Health and Safety Executive. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
An Ashleigh Building spokesperson said: “We are devastated to confirm a fatality on our Hallmeadow, Annan site this morning.”
