Full record of 93 Tesco shops to get new aisle in first for the grocery store
Tesco is set to launch a new dedicated aisle which will include products across multiple categories
Tesco is set to revolutionise the way it caters to women going through perimenopause and menopause, with a move to introduce dedicated aisles in 93 of its large UK stores. This initiative will see a wide range of products, from haircare to nutrition, sexual wellness, digestive health, and skincare, specifically designed to help women manage symptoms associated with this life stage.
The supermarket giant aims to “empower women with more choices” by providing a one-stop-shop for their needs. This comes on the back of a successful trial in over 200 stores last year, which featured a selection of products, including Vitabiotics vitamins, Nivea and Olay skincare, and Tena and Always personal hygiene items.
In a bid to make it easier for customers to identify suitable products, Tesco is partnering with GenM, a coalition of retailers and manufacturers that design products for menopausal women. The M-tick label, the first universally recognised mark for such products, will be featured on items that are ‘safer’ for women going through perimenopause or menopause, as well as those specifically designed to alleviate common symptoms.
By incorporating the M-tick label, both in-store and online, Tesco aims to provide an easy shopping experience for women seeking products tailored to their needs during this life stage. This move marks a significant step forward in supporting women’s health and wellbeing, and sets a new standard for the industry.
The NHS provides a wealth of information on menopause, including resources for support. The NHS website details common symptoms of menopause and perimenopause, such as changes in menstrual cycles.
Many women observe changes to their regular menstrual cycle, such as irregular bleeding, and ultimately, periods stop. Mental health symptoms can also be a sign of the menopause, including:
- mood changes, such as low mood, anxiety, mood swings, and low self-esteem.
- memory or concentration issues (brain fog).
Physical symptoms may include:
- hot flushes, characterised by sudden sensations of heat or cold in your face, neck, and chest, which can cause dizziness
- sleep difficulties, potentially due to night sweats, leading to daytime tiredness and irritability
- noticeable heart palpitations
- headaches and migraines that are more severe than usual
- muscle aches and joint pains
- changes in body shape and weight gain
- skin changes, including dry and itchy skin
- decreased sex drive
- vaginal dryness and discomfort, itching, or pain during sex
- repeated urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- sensitive teeth, painful gums, or other oral issues
