Mohamed Salah is set to pen a new deal after a contract breakthrough.
Liverpool are teetering on the edge of bagging the Premier League title, staying ahead of the pack despite a 3-2 stumble against Fulham on Sunday. The Reds are clinging to an impressive 11-point lead over Arsenal.
But the Egyptian striker, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold could all depart for free in the summer.
However the Reds have always been confident they can keep the 32-year-old and now the Times have reported he is close to penning a new deal.
The news comes from an impeccably sourced journalist and comes just days after it was announced Van Dijk had also reached a breakthrough in contract talks.
Salah has been directly involved in 54 goals across all competitions for Arne Slot’s side this season — scoring 32 times and providing 22 assists.
He has voiced frustration at the process towards a renewal at time this year, but sources in his homeland indicate that an accord is now close.
Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, has been leading discussions with the player’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, it is reported.
Salah, among the favourites to be crowned the Premier League’s player of the year after his scoring streak, had received interest from the Saudi Pro League.
But his is eight-year stint at Anfield looks set to continue and, with Egypt ready to let him miss their national team camp in June, a summer off would allow him to prepare and try to maintain his standards next term.
