Mum who gained £3m Omaze dwelling places it up on the market – however faces sudden drawback
Rachael Reid, 54, was the lucky winner of the six-bedroom bungalow near Farnham, Surrey, last July, but she has now put it for sale to be closer to home
A lucky mum-of-three who bagged a swanky pad in an Omaze raffle is still on the hunt for a buyer after putting the property up for sale last year.
Rachael Reid, 54, won a jaw-dropping six-bed bungalow near Farnham, Surrey, last July. She nabbed the stunning property, complete with a 40ft indoor heated pool and a gym, spread over 1.4 acres – all by just shelling out £10 for the competition entry.
Keen to turn her prize into cold hard cash, she listed the home on Rightmove through Savills in December with a price tag of £2,950,000.
But, as revealed by the Mirror, the price got reduced by £200,000 on March 25.
It’s now being touted at £2,750,000, a sum that’s still a corker of a windfall for Rachael and her hubby Darren, who she’s been hitched to for three decades. The couple enjoyed a brief stint living it up at the place before making the move to sell.
Revealing why she’s trading the dream house for a stack of cash, the Inverness-based mum previously said: “I still can’t believe it really happened to us – winning a multi-million-pound house in Surrey has changed our lives forever. We’ve really enjoyed spending time at the house – it’s been magical and the whole family has loved it. All the locals have been lovely and welcoming – it’s a fantastic area.
“The money I also got as part of my big win means if we wanted to, we could stay here for years and never have to worry about any costs – but we love where we live now, so we’ve decided to sell up and cash in – so we can buy an amazing house a bit closer to all our family and friends in Scotland.
“The money from the sale will change everything for the entire family – it’s just incredible – we’re all so excited for the future – we might even build our very own Omazing house!
“Entering Omaze was the best decision I ever made – I wish anyone who enters the best of luck, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!”
On the listing on Rightmove, estate agents Savills said: “This immaculate six bedroom property has been developed to a very high standard to create a contemporary country home with stylish interiors throughout.”
The renovated bungalow includes a detached pool house boasting of a shower, gym, sauna and changing room. Outside the front door, a large gravel driveway with double carport leads to solid wood electric gates.
It has been refurbished with a modern architectural design with a huge entrance hallway leading to a drawing room with a vaulted ceiling that overlooks the private back garden. One feature includes a Purbeck stone chimney fireplace.
The abode features oak flooring throughout the kitchen and dining area, boasting an island with a breakfast bar setup. It doesn’t end there; a sprawling living room awaits, alongside a study and a plush master bedroom complete with a cosy seating spot, French doors that open out to the patio, a walk-in wardrobe, and a dazzling en suite bathroom.
Step outside and you’re greeted by an alfresco kitchen, decked out with concrete worktops plus built-in storage, and there’s even an outdoor fireplace for those chillier evenings. The 1.4-acre estate flaunts beautifully manicured landscapes and a private wooded stretch.
Savills has given the thumbs up to the locale, branding it a “sought-after village” and pointing out its convenient proximity to Farnham and Guildford—a mere four miles and 8.9 miles away respectively—for those needing to zip into town for work.
A spokesperson for Omaze said: “Whatever their circumstances, all Omaze winners have several fantastic life changing options available to them. Omaze is immensely proud to have created 35 millionaires whilst also raising more than £81 million for good causes in the UK since it launched here.”
Savills estate agents were contacted about the price reduction before this story was published but declined to comment.
