Brits spark upsurge in nation pub holidays the place they like to only booze and eat
EXCLUSIVE: Brits are going bonkers for countryside boozers with over half of people saying they are considering a trip to little inn in away from the din of the city
Airbnb has revealed a slew of refurbished inns designed to cater for an army of countryside-seeking, food-mad holidaymakers. The online holiday site previously offered countryside publicans the chance to get their boozers done up in a bid to attract guests to stay, and has now produced a survey that found 52% of people want to go on holiday to a country boozer.
The scheme was undertaken in a bid to ‘restore their former character’ and now, those pubs are raring to welcome visitors amid a surge of interest in the sector.
It comes alongside data revealing Brits are seeking food and drink experiences more and more, with 42% of Brits planning on travelling this Easter revealing they are doing so with the hope of enjoying great bites and bevvies.
Meanwhile the research, conducted on behalf of Airbnb, found a 71% increase in the number of Brits wanting a getaway in the Great British countryside.
The newly-refurbished Airbnb pubs you can stay in are:
- The Thomas Tripp (sleeps 2), Christchurch, Dorset
- The Townhouse (sleeps 2), Lymington, New Forest
- The Swan (sleeps 2), Milton, Derbyshire
The rise of domestic, close-to-nature getaways makes sense in a post-covid world, with Airbnb’s UK Head of Partnerships, Luke Impett, Airbnb, telling the Daily Star that pubs are the “perfect place” for people looking to stay in more rural areas.
He explained: “With a quarter of Brits looking to explore more of the UK this year*, and 52% of bookings being made for rural stays, we know that guests travelling on Airbnb are looking for an authentic, unique, British experience, and pubs are a perfect place for this. All three of the pubs we’ve worked with to open rooms for overnight guests have fantastic pub grub.
“This taps into the growing demand for gastro-tourism with our research showing 42% of Brits are travelling for memorable dining experiences and over half (52%) are considering or planning a ‘pub-cation’. By staying over at these pubs, people can now travel further afield to unlock and experience different hidden gems right in the heart of country towns.”
He continued: “Pubs are spaces where locals and visitors alike can connect over good food, and our latest research shows that 37% of Brits prefer the dining experience offered by cosy rural pubs.
“The enduring appeal of traditional pubs and their warm ambience shows no sign of waning, with authenticity remaining a key factor in retaining locals while also attracting punters from new corners of the country.”
