Spieth shocked fans with his golf club tap

Jordan Spieth seemed to hit the wrong balls at the Masters and he left a spectator doubled over in pain. The American was caught on camera smirking as he high-fived and then wacked a guy in the nether region with the grip of his golf club as he headed to the next hole.

Speith, 31, was in high spirits as he strode towards the third tee, having birdied the first and then parred the second at the start of his final round.

One unfortunate individual felt the full force of his happy mood by receiving a tap in the groin. Spieth gave fist bumps to fans as he passed by, before seemingly intentionally flicking out the grip of his putter and striking an unidentified person where it hurts the most.

The victim was standing on the players’ side of the ropes, and clearly experienced the impact of Spieth’s practical joke as he appeared to be in some discomfort. Spieth may have chuckled a bit too long about the humorous incident, as he went on to bogey the third hole, bringing him to level par for the day.

Fans took to social media after the clip went viral.

On X, one wrote: “Tremendous ball striking as always from Jordan.” Another quipped: “The fact that the old guy buckles over too, is just incredible. This may be the shot of the day.” A third simply said: “That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.”

While fans laughed many were trying to figure out who the poor victim was.

One said: “You would think its a mate or its because he assumed he tried to grab the club off him.”

However, many believe it is his agent Jay Danzi. One person wrote: ““That guy” looks an awful lot like Spieth’s manager, Jay Danzi.”

Spieth has been keeping a low profile for most of the week. He barely made the cut, taking his score to +2 over Thursday and Friday, before an impressive round of 69 on Saturday moved him into the red.

This incident came just a day after Spieth had already courted controversy at Augusta for breaking an unwritten rule.

On Saturday, he risked angering officials by discussing the issue of ‘mud balls’ at the Masters.

The course maintains its pristine appearance by the grass being mowed in the direction of the tee boxes. This however creates a common problem where balls become coated in mud.

Speaking after carding a third-round 69 to reach one under par, Spieth broke the tournament’s unspoken rule of silence on the matter.

The 2015 winner said: “My iron play killed me the last two days, and to be brutally honest with you, it was primarily mud balls,” Spieth said after his third round.

“It’s just so frustrating because you can’t talk about them here. You’re not supposed to talk about them.”

His frustration was evident as he explained how the issue had significantly impacted his performance.
