Ex-Man Utd star admits he’d ‘love’ to play in Baller League regardless of Champions League ambition
Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga admitted he’d ‘love’ to play in the Baller League as he made his punditry debut on the six-a-side tournament
Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga admitted he’d ‘love’ to play in the Baller League.
The Sweden winger has ripped defence apart in the Premier League this season as he looks to book Forest a place in next season’s Champions League. And the ex-Manchester United youngster is already eyeing up another competition.
Elanga appeared as a guest on the Baller League coverage, where he spoke about the six-a-side tournament, which has been incredibly popular in his native Sweden. He revealed: “I used to play this back in the day when I was in Sweden, so I want to jump on the pitch.”
The tournament, broadcast on Sky Sports and featuring football icons as managers of the teams, including Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Micah Richards, Jens Lehmann, Ian Wright and Luis Figo, is clearly capturing attention with one of the stars of the top-flight this season making an appearance.
Elanga was asked whether he would want to play in the Baller League, to which the 22-year-old replied: “I’d love it, I’d love to go out there.”
The winger, who has six goals and eight assists in the Premier League so far this season, continued to reveal the three teams that he has been supporting. He added: “I’ve got three teams – Yanited, SDS FC and VZN FC.”
When asked about the role he’d want to play, Elanga stated he’d want a role where he can be in the centre of the action. “Midfielder, dictate the play,” he said.
However, it remains unlikely that Elanga will get to grace the Copper Box Arena pitch with the Baller League wrapping up before the end of the Premier League season.
But given the popularity the tournament receives and the scope it has to grow in the coming years could see it taken to a whole new level with the inclusion of some of the best players in the country featuring as special guests.
Elanga has enjoyed the best campaign of his career at Forest this season as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side look to secure a Champions League place, with the Tricky Trees currently 3rd in the league with six games left to play.
