Arsenal have been handed a huge transfer blow ahead of the summer.

The Gunners have been keen admirers of the youngster for the past 12 months – and they were linked with his signature alongside Manchester City last summer. However, Aston Villa have now entered the race.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “Aston Villa are advancing in talks to sign 18 year old Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan.

“Negotiations underway on both club and player side as @Ole_Saga reported, as Villa presented their project weeks ago. Talks ongoing to win the race over Man City/Girona and Arsenal.”

The 18-year-old Norwegian sensation, likened to Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard, shone for Rosenborg last season.

Nypan racked up 18 goal contributions in 33 games as Rosenborg claimed fourth in the Eliteserien. And The Guardian reported last summer that Arsenal were ‘hopeful’ of clinching a deal for the midfield maestro.

The report added that Villa and Tottenham were also also sniffing around Nypan, who had spotted in Erling Haaland’s VIP box during a Premier League match last season.

He was seen with agent Rafaela Pimenta by his side, with Nypan is also on Girona’s radar – who are part of the City Football Group.

Arteta is keen to add to his squad, and he admitted he was disappointed by a quiet transfer window in January.

“We had a clear intention which is always when a window opens to explore the opportunities to improve our squad with players that can make an impact,” he sighed.

“With players injured, we’ve been impacted and we haven’t achieved it.

“We are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players and we have to be very disciplined with that as well. I think that we were.”
