Michael Schumacher flew from Majorca to Switzerland for the birth of his first grandchild last month, according to reports.

The F1 icon has been kept out of the public eye for over a decade since he suffered a horror skiing accident in the French Alps 12 years ago. He was placed in a medically induced coma after he almost lost his life and fractured his skull. The driver later had two brain surgeries.

Schumacher’s wife Corinna and his kids Gina and racing driver Mick have kept details of the star’s condition under wraps, and only a few close friends and family can visit him. He recovered from the incident at his Swiss mansion, but he is believed to have relocated to a Spanish villa to continue recuperating. But the driver made a rare trip back to his family home by Lake Geneva to be with Gina when she gave birth, The Sun reported.

Schumacher reportedly travelled by helicopter to witness the arrival. Gina, 28, and her husband Iain Bethke welcomed their daughter Millie on March 29.

The couple, who have been together since 2017, wrote on Instagram: “Welcome to the world, Millie Born on March 29th, our hearts are fuller than ever. We are beyond blessed to have you in our lives.”

They shared an image of them holding the newborn’s hand. Gina is an equestrian and her husband is also a horse enthusiast.

It is still unclear if Michael Schumacher attended their wedding ceremony which took place at the villa in Majorca last year.

Johnny Herbert, Schumacher’s close friend, said that it was ‘fake news’ that the seven-time world champion had attended the wedding.

Felix Gorner, a reporter for German broadcaster RTL, said in March that Schumacher “can no longer communicate verbally.” The journalist is viewed as one of the reporters closest to the F1 star.

The Daily Star recently reported that Michael Schumacher recently made an emotional public gesture with the help of his wife Corinna.
