Lauren Sanchez and Katy Perry mercilessly mocked for ‘wildly photoshopped’ Blue Origin crew footage

Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry and Gayle King will blast off into space today as a part of a historical all-female space mission – but photos of the crew posted online have users declaring the mission a ‘joke.’

Jeff BezosBlue Origin flight – which has NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn also on board – will see the women soaring off to space for 11-minutes.

However, pictures of the crew, posing in custom-made space suits designed by Sanchez, have prompted some to question if their preparation for lift off involved more photoshop than physics.

‘Wow. That’s a lot of photoshop and filters… I guess there’s only so much make up and filler can do,’ one user wrote sarcastically.

They continued, snarking: ‘Blue Origin is starting to be a joke, too bad.’

Another sarcastically wrote: ‘This photo needs more Botox and face filters.’

‘DEI: Who is ready to watch a gaggle of dolled-up damsels, largely untethered from practical skill or sweat-earned expertise, lounge in the space pod sipping stardust, while the invisible hands of competent men labor endlessly to ensure everything works flawlessly, and that the ladies aren’t incinerated in a fiery catastrophe,’ ranted another.

Others responded to a photo of the crew posing at the company’s launch site in West Texas, sharing their skepticism over the legitimacy of the image.

‘Something about the photo feels off, parts of it looked like they have been photoshopped in,’ one person wrote.

‘Yeah if you looks closely around the edges they all seem to be airbrushed,’ chimed in another.

Another user noted the flaw, writing: ‘Let’s photoshop everyone together from separate pictures and then make it look like they are posing on the loading bridge.’

During their 11-minute flight, the New Shepard capsule will reach an altitude of 62 miles (100km) and cross the Karman Line, often used as the boundary of space.

As the capsule enters freefall, the crew will be treated to three to four minutes of weightlessness as they leave their seats to take in the magnificent view.

Their journey will be powered by a reusable rocket which will push the capsule into space before detaching and gently guiding itself back to Earth.

This week Sanchez told The New York Times of designing the blue suits, explaining she wanted to ‘reimagine the flight suit.’

‘Usually, you know, these suits are made for a man,’ she explained. ‘Then they get tailored to fit a woman.’

The 55-year-old declared: ‘I think the suits are elegant but they also bring a little spice to space.’

The journalist got in touch with Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim five months ago, who are the co-founders of the brand Monse and also the creative directors of Oscar de la Renta and made her 2024 Met Gala outfit.

They agreed to help her with the space suit designs.

The entire crew spoke to Elle Magazine in a joint interview, revealing they’ll be have their hair and makeup done for the flight – along with heir sleek space suits.

‘Who would not get glam before the flight?’  Sánchez quipped, while Perry declared: ‘Space is going to finally be glam.’

‘Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up ‘ith me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut,’ the popstar added.

Since 2021, Blue Origin has carried a total of 52 people to the edge of space on 10 human flights. Bezos himself was part of the crew on Blue Origin’s first.
