Man Utd ‘enter race for Aaron Ramsdale’ as Ruben Amorim makes brutal Andre Onana admission
The Red Devils are reportedly in the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, and have been linked with Southampton and England shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale
Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Southampton’s shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale.
The Red Devils are in a goalkeeping crisis, with Ruben Amorim dropping No.1 Andre Onana over the weekend. The Cameroonian dropped a clanger in the dying seconds of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg before he was benched.
Altay Bayindir stepped up but ended up committing his own howler with a dodgy clearance at St James’ Park.
Amorim, keeping his cool, said post-match: “[It is] important to focus on the next game for the league and then think about the second leg against Lyon,” following the blunder. “When one player has a mistake, all the team has a mistake, so we continue like that.”
The Sun are reporting United are just one of the clubs queuing up for Ramsdale after Southampton were relegated. West Ham are also sniffing around the 26-year-old, who’s apparently eager to stick it out in the Premier League despite some glances from abroad.
The England international has already been bumped from the top spot at another big club, waving goodbye to Arsenal when David Raya became the No.1.
But he’s been a rare ray of light at Southampton this term, even pulling off a couple of penalty saves in their recent loss against Aston Villa, reports the Mirror.
Ramsdale was roped into Thomas Tuchel’s team for England’s opening two matches under the new gaffer, but didn’t make the cut for either the Albania or Latvia games.
His last of five senior caps was earned in a friendly against Iceland before Euro 2024, and he didn’t clock any game time during the Euros as England stormed to the final with Jordan Pickford between the sticks.
Reports suggest he’s keen on sticking around in the Premier League to up his odds of making the 2026 World Cup squad.
Tuchel did include four foreign-based players in his debut squad, with Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson joined by AC Milan loanee Kyle Walker.
