‘Home Alone 2’ Director Fears What Might Happen If He Removes Trump Cameo

Film director Chris Columbus is caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to his classic 1992 movie, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
The film features a cameo by Donald Trump, who, as then-owner of New York’s Plaza Hotel, reportedly demanded the bit part as a condition to use the hotel.

Columbus and the film’s star, Macaulay Culkin, have expressed regrets for the cameo, with Culkin even supporting the idea of Trump’s 7-second cameo being digitally removed from the film.
However, Columbus tells the San Francisco Chronicle that even though the scene has become “an albatross” and “wishes it was gone,” he admits the Trump scene is in the film to stay.
“I can’t cut it,” Columbus lamented. “If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent out of the country. I’ll be considered sort of not fit to live in the United States, so I’ll have to go back to Italy or something.”

After the Canadian Broadcast Company edited the cameo out of its showing of the film in 2019, Trump supporters freaked out ― even though the scene was removed in 2014, long before Trump’s first term as president.
Trump also has strong feelings about his role in the film and has taken previous remarks from Columbus very personally.
Back in 2023, Trump responded to Columbus’ 2020 claims that he bullied his way into the film.
“I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history!” Trump said on his TruthSocial platform.

“That little cameo took off like a rocket, and the movie was a big success, and still is, especially around Christmas time,” he went on. “People call me whenever it is aired.”
Meanwhile, Culkin admitted on Reddit in 2018 that he preferred the first “Home Alone” film because “we didnt know what we were walking into and it was a lot less flying all over the place; it was all in Chicago. Also it had %100 less Trump.”
